Happy and Bob Elliott at a meeting of IBM Ring 76 in December, 2008

December 13, 2010.  Welcome to the website for fans of the Bob Elliott and his wife Happy Elliott, www.MagicianBobElliott.com.  My name is Magician Michael, and I’m a big fan of the Elliotts.

Bob passed away about a week ago, but his footprint in the world of magic is getting bigger by the day.  Magician Bob Elliott might be unknown to the general public, but he is well known to the most elite names in the world of magic.  Bob and Happy were at the heart of the New York magic scene for decades, helping out some of the most important magicians of the modern era.  Their hospitality was legendary.  When they relocated to Oceanside, California, they continued their sharing ways.

Bob and Happy stayed active in the local magic clubs, IBM Ring 76 in San Diego and the Magic Guild of Southern California.  Bob performed wherever he went, plucking silver dollars from the ears of kids, and then giving them the “found” coins.  He often hung out at the offices of Medicine-In-Motion in San Marcos, with his buddy Dr. Jeff Pearson.  His brash style was always coupled with a warm, sincere kindness.  He was like a magnet for great magic, and famous magicians.

His final magic convention was in July, 2010, at the International Brotherhood of Magicians convention in San Diego.  Although health issues made it difficult for him to walk, or perform, he still shined with his love for magic and the joy at seeing so many old friends.

The last time I saw Bob was on Thanksgiving Day, November 25.  The strength was gone from his body, but his face still glowed with a serene calm.  He was in hospice care at home, surrounded by his family.  As I sat with him, I thanked him for fun times we had, and especially for all the good he’s done for magic.  I told him that Magicians around the world love him, and appreciate his kindness.  The last thing he said to me was “God Bless”.

A Message From Happy Elliott

THE LOVE OF MY LIFE, ROBERT CHARLES ELLIOTT, aka ELLIOTT THE GREAT, passed away peacefully without pain at home this morning December 7, 2010 at 9:00 AM.  He was under hospice care for three weeks before his passing into a new life.  The journey continues, more lessons to be learned leading to greater wisdom and understanding throughout the vastness of Creation.

His last meal three days ago consisted of spaghetti and meatballs, apple pie with chocolate ice cream and skim milk, his favorite foods. The next two days he didn’t drink or eat anything.  I knew the end was near.  Even though he couldn’t talk, I knew he could hear me and feel my touch.  As I laid my head next to his, holding his hand and telling him how much I loved him and how he was loved by friends around the world, I said it was OK for him to go and that Jennifer, John and I would be alright.  I thanked him for the 39 wonderful years we shared.

Earlier this morning when I got up and opened the curtains of the master bedroom, I looked up to the overcast sky and saw the sun peeking through the clouds.  Around the sun was a bright yellow ring.  A beam of light coming through the sliding glass doors was striking upon Bob’s closet door.  I sensed today Bob’s Soul was going Home.

Bob was constantly saying, “Let’s go to Vegas, let’s go home” raising his hands towards the sky.  At first I didn’t understand.  But he knew.  His friends Derek Dingle, Phyllis &, Herb Zarrow, Frank Garcia, Mario Gonzales, Slydini, Charlie Reynolds, J.C. Wagner, and so many others were waiting for him.  They were having a grand old time and Bob didn’t want to miss the fun.  It was as if he had a foot in two worlds. I told him, when you see the light and you feel it’s time to go, your family, friends and angels on the other side will guide you Home.

To those of you who called, when I placed the phone next to Bob’s ear, he heard every word you said (the hearing is the last sense to leave) even though he could no longer speak.  I know it was your way of saying “good-bye” (“God be with you”) to him.  I told Bob about all the friends who had called and how much they loved him and how grateful they were to have known him.

During his final days, Bob loved the music of the 50s and 60s which I played often for him and he’d sing along while he was still able to speak.  He loved to watch “The Wheel of Fortune,” “Jeopardy” and old movies.  I remember one of the puzzles on “Wheel of Fortune” was, “I Will Always Love You”.   Bob and I so often said that to one another.

I know so many of you have been touched by Bob in some special way and that you will never forget him.  No matter where you go in the world in all of the billions of people you will never find another like him.  Bob’s legacy was “GIVING,” both in Life and in Death.  He donated his brain to science so others could help find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Thank you all for the prayers and love you send our way.  You are an important part of our lives and we will never forget you.  Keep in touch.  Love Happy, Jennifer & John

A celebration of Bob’s life is planned for Saturday, January 8, 2011 and will be held at the Elliott residence in Oceanside. Further details will be announced when they're finalized.

Bob Elliott Stories Pouring In

From Russ Niedzwiecki, Dec. 10, 2010

I do not have any outstanding stories about Bob. I had the chance to meet him only a few times.  But I do remember what a kind and open individual he was.  He really knew how to make you feel special.  I think Bob put one over on us magicians every time- we were being slightly misdirected, because the method to Bob's magic was love and kindness.

Seems like Bob had an endless supply of front row seats he was always willing to give away to "his show".  I'm happy to have had the chance to meet him.

From Harry Mandel, Dec. 9, 2010

I have so many stories about Bob.  How he would share and give advice.  But my favorite story is one where he wasn’t even there.  I was dropping off my son at the Doctor’s office.  I was wearing a tux and the doctor asked why I was wearing a tux.  I told her I was a magician and I was doing a show that night.  She asked me if I knew Bob Elliott. I said of course I know Bob.  She told me her son took magic lessons from Bob.

Later that night after I finished my show, a woman came up to me and asked if I knew Bob Elliott.  Twice in one night. What were to odds. I replied, you can’t be a magician in New York and not know Bob.

A month later I was in Atlanta for a Dental Trade Show. I saw Charles Greene III, performing a Professors’ Nightmare the way Bob showed me how to do it.  Now it was my turn to ask. I asked Charles if he knew Bob Elliott.  He said yes, Bob had shown him that move for the Professors’ Nightmare. Charles and I had many Bob Elliott stories to trade.  Bob will be missed greatly.

From David Kaye, Dec. 8, 2010

When I was 12 years old I started riding the subway to Tannen's every Saturday. Hanging out there and then going over to Governors Cafe. On one of those early visits, someone at Tannen's sold me a champagne bottle Topsy Turvy set. It was paid for and I was holding it and Bob called me over. Bob was behind the counter. He was very disappointed that someone had sold that to me. He told me, "You shouldn't do this trick. First of all the bottles are champagne bottles and you are a kid. And secondly, these bottles are too big for your small hands." He took the bottles back and he sold me the root beer bottle version.

That was a real important moment in my life. For an adult magician to be so generous and caring to a kid he didn't know. I was just another 12 year old kid in Tannen's. And yet he was looking out for me. And that experience has affected how I treat young magicians today. I learned from Bob how powerful the experience can be for an adult magician look out for you and take an interest in your magic.

That day was nearly 40 years ago. And I remember it like it was yesterday. That shows what an important moment that was for me, and how special Bob was. I will miss him.

From Doc Eason, Dec. 8, 2010

I arranged my first lecture tour through the southern New England and New York area through Bob in the early 90s. Bob picked me up at LaGuardia and announced that we were to stop by the legendary Emil Loew's apartment where 'the boys' were having a session. The only other thing I remember from the night was that Del Cartier was there as well. There were others but I don't recall their names. I was welcomed into the distinguished circle with open arms. Very flattering to a young fella like myself.

The next day, Bob hustled me off to the local bagel joint for coffee and carbs and we motormouthed each other about family and our history. When we got home to the Cold Springs Harbor house, I made a call and talked to my daughter who was about 3 years old. I don't remember what I was saying to her but when I looked up Bob had tears in his eyes. What a softie!

He also facilitated my first (of many) meetings with Ace Greenberg, the legendary Wall Street tycoon/magician. I will always be grateful for that as well.

Bob really would give you the shirt off his back. Magic has lost a great one but he has inspired so many folks that his legacy will live on through all those he has touched.

Aloha my friend, Doc

From Steve Dacri, Dec. 8, 2010

Bob was a great man in so many ways.  I have written about him before and I was so happy to see him and Happy at my show in San Diego a few years ago, laughing and enjoying himself.  Afterwards, we spent time together; he showed me some outrageous coin moves.  He still had the skills he had developed over the years and continued to perform right up until the end.

He was always proud of the fact that David Copperfield (one of his long time friends) hired him to perform magic at his birthday parties many times, and he was recognized by so many in the magic world as one of the special guys, a top performer with skills and abilities that topped those of many of the money-earning performers whose names are more recognized that his.  Bob was a behind-the-scenes guy, working his magic as an organizer, show producer and teacher for Tannen’s, Harry Lorayne and so many other events over the years.

Difficult to say good-bye.  I was planning a trip within the next 2 weeks to surprise him for one last visit at his home, but that shall not come to be.  I miss him already, his smiling face and his genuine love for all things magic and the magicians he befriended over the decades.  Rest in peace, my friend.  My prayers are with you and Happy and your wonderful family.

From Michael Goldman, Dec. 8, 2010

20 years ago I was at a point in my magical journey where I really wanted to improve. There I was, standing in the magic shop, and the owner suggested that I call Bob Elliott if I really wanted to improve.  The call went something like this.  “Hello Bob.”  “Yes.”  “My name is Michael etc. etc., and I want to learn magic.”  Answer: “OK.  Come over to my house.”  Question: “How much?”  Answer: “Free.  Just come over.”

So my thought was, “No way.”  I am not going over to some guy’s house offering free lessons.  No one does that.  This is a trick (no pun intended) and this guy is a nut or a killer or something. I mean.  Who in their right mind just gives free lessons to a stranger?  Who just helps out anyone who calls them and says “I want to learn.”  Who would just free up their schedule, and take the time to help some random voice over the phone -

Who would just give and give and give and give and give, endlessly, unconditionally, willingly, and always with an open heart, with absolutely no expectation of anything in return?

The answer: Bob Elliott.  Finally, and still skeptical, I went to his house and he sat with me and started teaching, but this was not just teaching, it was giving and it was love.  He told me to come to the IBM.  I told him that I was more interested in Magic than computers.  He laughed.

At the IBM meeting in Syosset NY he put a quarter in a Perrier bottle and I flipped.  Since that day, magic became not just a hobby but a part of me.  Bob showed me the way for years and years and years, 20 to be exact, and because of him, I had the honor of hosting some of the real greats in my house and to sit one on one with them.

To wit - I once had Lennert Greene in my kitchen and he performed and explained to me his whole FISM routine.  I also had the pleasure of performing with Bob over and over at parties and conventions--The best way to learn was to watch the best.  Needless to say - Bob changed my life and I am forever indebted to him.

Finally, you can't mention Bob without mentioning his wife Happy, as Happy sat on the sidelines over and over and allowed magicians to enter her house and allowed us to sit in her kitchen and play around like little kids. Never a complaint--not once!  Bob and Happy, you are my surrogate parents, and not just to me but to many, many people.

To the Elliotts - Happy, Jon and Jen, rest assured that Bob was simply the greatest and in his death I offer you to celebrate his life.  You have memories that most will never have and/or experience.

Not that I'm a doctor but I am sure that Bob died from heart failure from his heart possessing unlimited amounts of love, giving, warmth, and humanity.  Right now, God is saying to Bob, “How did you do that?”

Bob, if the internet is in heaven, then when you read this, and I know you already know this, but let me say it anyway, I love you like my father and I will miss you forever.

From Teddy Lee, Dec. 8, 2010

Bob has been a good friend of mine, also.  We met years ago at one of the Tannen's Jubilees in upstate New York.  Bob was a person that when you met him (and Happy) that your friendship would last forever.  One of the finest couples I've known.  Always taking time to have a nice conversation with, and Bob was always ready to show you some type of magical effect, and how to work it if you didn't catch it at first.  We've had some photos together over the years.

In 1991, I happened to be at Tannen's Magic Shop.  In walks Bob, sees me, and immediately walks over and introduces me to a magician who arrived in the U.S. recently, from Italy...Aldo Colombini.  You know the rest of the story about Aldo.

Probably the last time I saw and was in the company of Bob, was several years ago, before he and Happy moved to California, was at a Magic Funday event in New Jersey.  It was probably when Bob recognized himself that he was in the early stages of forgetting things.  He even mentioned it to me.  Well, I had heard a humorous story several weeks before the Funday thing.  So, I told it to Bob.  It was about these three sisters who lived together.  One sister, who was on the stairs, yells to a sister who was in the bathroom and asks, "Can you tell me if I am going upstairs or going downstairs?  I can't remember."

The sister in the bathroom responds, "I don't know. I can't remember if I am getting in the tub or out of the tub."

So the sister on the stairs yells to the sister in the living room and asks, "Was I going upstairs or downstairs?" To which the sister in the living room replies, “I don't know. I have my own problems,” as she thinks out loud to herself “I'm glad I'm not like them” and she says and goes through the motion at the same time, "Knock on wood".

Then she immediately yells to her sister on the stairs, "Can you get that for me, someone is knocking on the front door."  To which Bob bursts immediately into so much laughter, that he immediately goes to a few people nearby that he knows and repeats the joke. I think he told it several times that day during the Magic Funday.  And, he told me how much he enjoyed the story.  My prayers are with Happy and family.  As long as all of us can reflect on Bob's life, he will still live in our hearts and minds.  And I'm sure that will be forever!

Yes, the rumors are true.  Bob Elliott is still circulating, despite some health difficulties.  Every Thursday, you can find him at Hooter's in Oceanside with his buddy, Dr. Jeff Pearson.  From 12:30 - 2:00 p.m., they join other local magicians for fun and food, just a few blocks from where the Elliotts live.

Jeff is not only a talented Magician, but he's an expert Physician in sports medicine.  He's been working with Bob for several years now, keeping him active and healthy.  Jeff has tons of photos of Bob on his Facebook page.  He also has extensive taped interviews with Bob on his magic, his routines and his history.  Someday, Dr. Pearson hopes to complete a book on Bob Elliott's magic.  But for now, the pair are continuing their research at Hooter's, a lively place where vivacious waitresses prove why the restaurant is so named.

P2 Photography of San Marcos handled Bob Elliott’s first professional photo shoot, and the results are stunning.

Master Photographers Jon and Jenna Hand spent hours with Bob in the studio on January 13, 2009, getting to know the Magician and having him handle various magic props.  Happy Elliott and Michael E. Johnson were also there to consult.

The result was so good, it made the cover of “Missouri S&T Magazine,” Spring 2009 issue, published for the Miner Alumni Association.  The article was titled “Elliott the Great: Magician, Mentor” by Linda Fulps.  Throughout his magic career, Bob always had a regular day job as an Engineer.

Elliott Shares Magic Around Town

Magician Bob Elliott performs close-up magic in Lake San Marcos for the Wouinded Warriors charity event
Bob performs for the Wounded Warriors
On Saturday, September 6, I saw Bob volunteer for a charity event at the Lake San Marcos Country Club.  The event honored the "Wounded Warriors," a golf tournament and banquet to honor soldiers wounded in combat.  Several men and women Marines from Camp Pendleton attended.

Here's what I like about working an event where Bob is.  I really get into my set of close-up magic for a small group and the crowd starts roaring.  Then I look out of the corner of my eye, and there's Bob watching too.  He gives me a nod of approval, and it gives me an instant high.  I finish with my best stuff, and the crowd goes crazy.

Then comes the cool part.  Now I get to introduce everyone to Bob, and I get to watch them go even crazier.  It's almost like being the warm-up act for David Copperfield.  What a fun experience!

A few days later, I saw Bob and Happy on Monday, September 8.  It was the monthly meeting of the local magic club, International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 76.  Bob and Happy often attend, and they always share their magic, wisdom and wit.

I love seeing Bob pull a coin out of the ear of a child, and then give that child the very coin produced.  My own son has several silver dollars Bob found behind his ear.  This has to be an expensive hobby, but Bob sure does leave an impression with it.  After all, a real Magician should be able to make coins appear like magic.

At this meeting, Ring 76 was holding an auction of various (and sundry) magic props.  I loved the priceless looks on Bob's face as many wide-eyed amateur magicians bought a mutant array of magical gimmicks and gizmos.  Bob was never one to use many props, but he kept his mischievious comments to whispers during the auction.

IBM Ring 76 Honors Elliott

Magician Michael E. Johnson presents a Proclamation to Bob Elliott and Happy Elliott from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors during a July 22, 2007, meeting of the International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 76
Michael E. Johnson announces that July 22 is named Bob Elliott Day by the County Board of Supervisors

On Sunday, July 22, 2007, Bob Elliott was surprised with an Award of Distinction by the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Ring 76, in San Diego, California.  The Award recognizes more than half a century of service that Bob has provided to the magic community.  One hundred people attended the event at the golf resort Cottonwood at Rancho San Diego in El Cajon.

At 6:35 p.m., Ring 76 outgoing President Bob Ingalls stopped the banquet with an announcement.  There was a phone call, and it was David Copperfield, and he wanted to speak to Bob Elliott.  Bob was escorted up to stage, still unaware of the unfolding surprise.  David Copperfield addressed the crowd via speaker phone, just minutes before he was scheduled to take the stage in his own popular show.

David congratulated Bob, and asked him if he had gotten his awards yet, to which Bob replied, "What awards?".  That's when Bob realized something was up.

David electrified the crowd as he praised Bob, saying, "He was always giving support and good advice for people starting in magic.  At the beginning of my career, he was always there for me, giving guidance, advice, kindness and support for me.  He's done all that...  He is part of our history and he did really well."  In conclusion, David said, "Tell Bob and Happy I love them both and give them lots of energy."

Then Ring 76 incoming President Terry Lunceford presented Bob with a massive trophy, an award almost as big as Bob's footprint in the world of magic.  With Happy at his side, Bob received a Proclamation signed by the Board of Supervisors, naming July 22 "Bob Elliott Day" in San Diego County.  The ornate document was signed by all five members of the Board of Supervisors and presented from Supervisor Bill Horn.

There were letters of congratulations from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Senator Dianne Feinstein.  There were Certificates of Special Congressional Recognition from Reps. Susan Davis and Duncan Hunter.  State Senator Mark Wyland provided a Certificate of Recognition from the California State Senate.  With each new surprise, Bob kept whispering "Why me?".

But there was more.  A Testimonial Program was presented to Bob and Happy, with personal sentiments sent in by more than 70 of the most famous Magicians in the world.  Happy Elliott, who was in on the secret, wrote a chapter, "My Life With Elliott The Great", which was accompanied by early photos from the couple on the East Coast, and more recent photos of them on the West Coast.

Criss Angel wrote a special heartfelt message, "From the first time I met Mr. Elliott he was kind, generous and a wonderful human being who got joy out of giving.  This is very unique in the world that we live, but especially rare in magic.  I hope that we all learn, including myself, with Bob's mantra of giving, teaching and caring so that magic can reach its pinnacle.  Thank you Mr. Elliott and family for your support over the years.  Congratulations on achieving your success, which cannot be measured."

Terri and Dennis Cook created a remarkable Bob Elliott Tribute DVD, filmed at the most recent Tannen's Magic Camp, where Bob's influence is still felt.  Bob was deeply involved in the Camp for decades.  This DVD perfectly captures the impact Bob made, through interviews and anecdotes with the students and staff.

Other gifts included posters autographed from the latest shows by Tom Mullica  and Criss Angel.  Seth Kramer sent a rare hardcover presentation edition of his book "A Modern Trade Show Handbook", which mentions in the first chapter how Bob influenced his life.

Halfway around the world, Magic Christian stayed up all night, to try and call Bob with congratulations, but a cell-phone mix-up prevented his good wishes.

Throughout the recognition, Bob was stunned, looking down sheepishly as if he was not deserving.  Tears streaked down Happy's face too, as she looked proudly upon her World-Famous Magician Husband.  When the couple spoke to the crowd, their voices quivered with emotion.

Everyone in the crowd was moved, and they erupted in cheers and applause frequently with each new wave of surprises.  As Bob and Happy returned to their seats, everyone was smiling from ear to ear, aware that a magic moment had truly transpired.

Once the entertainment started, you could see Bob was happiest.  Tom Ogden made a special trip down from Los Angeles to share in the festivities.  He wowed the crowd with funny jokes, a delightful sponge ball routine with moves he learned from Bob, a spirited sword through the neck and a flawless linking rings routine.

Milt Larsen from the Magic Castle headlined the evening with an amusing ball production from a notepad, a clever six-card repeat, a nostalgic die box using patter from his father and a hilarious psychic routine with cards and audience volunteer Richard Ustick.  As the laughter grew, audience members started to notice that Milt's tie kept growing, until eventually it dragged on the ground.  The audience was amazed by his self-tying silk routine.

Throughout the performances, Bob's face was lit up like a child's.  His smile was genuine.  His eyes sparkled at the magic.  He truly loves watching award-winning magic, far more than receiving awards.  Many people said it was the funnest magic event they had ever seen.

The event has been written up in the Ring 76 newsletter "MagiCurrents," August 2007 issue.  To see the article and photos on-line, visit

My Life With Elliott The Great
By Happy Elliott

Bob Elliott and Happy Elliott in 2007 at Jeff Pearson's birthday party in Escondido

Magic is still a big part of our lives, even to this day.  I first met Bob in 1971 at Gleason's, a singles bar on the east side of Manhattan.  Hank, the manager of the bar, and Bob became roommates years prior, but that's a whole other story on how that came to be.

Anyway, Hank set aside a portion in the back corner of the bar, with table and chairs, just for Bob to entertain the gathering of his friends and newcomers who wanted to see magic.  Bob, being the perennial bachelor for 37 years, engaged four times and engaged to be married within a few weeks, was there with his fiancée.  I walked into the bar, (neither Bob nor I drink) and immediately was invited to come to the back and see the Magician.

All the seats were taken so someone got up to let me sit down, of course on the other side of Bob and away from his fiancée.  I had never been around magic before, but the combination of Bob's good looks, his exquisite body building physique, charm and charisma there definitely was an attraction and connection.

I rarely went into the bar, except when I wasn't dating a movie star or when I had another date.  Needless to say, Bob didn't see me very often.

When we did reconnect, we went out several times and then I told him I had to leave for California as I was going to help my brother-in-law transcribe his notes from a screenplay he was writing (this was all before the computers came into existence).  Bob didn't like this but made no commitment to me to stay and it probably wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

He did come to visit me in Los Angeles, which was a miracle; because Bob said he wouldn't even cross the street for his own Mother.  We talked on the phone as he hated to write and when I came back in the late summer, we started dating and were together all the time.

I was indoctrinated into the field of magic by going to the IBM and SAM club meetings, lectures and hanging out with Bob and his mentor Derek Dingle.  I saw the best magic from the beginning.

After nine months of dating Bob, all of his friends kept bugging him when he was going to marry me.  We each had our own separate apartments in Manhattan, and Derek, who lived in New Jersey, convinced Bob to put a deposit on an apartment on the Palisades overlooking the Hudson River and the skyline of the west side of Manhattan, which he did.

The apartment called the Stonehenge stayed vacant for several months until one Sunday evening Bob called me up and asked me if I wanted to get married the next day.  He said he would meet me at City Hall at noon, but couldn't promise anything, but that he'd try to show up.  My parents, brother and girlfriend were witnesses at the 1:15 p.m. wedding.  After we were married and had a small celebration, we both went our separate ways, I went back to work and Bob walked the streets, mumbling to himself, "What have I done; am I crazy?"

He was so scared and afraid to come to our apartment that night.  He managed to hook up with his friends and attended a Ken Krenzel lecture and then wandered to the various bars until 4:00 in the morning.  When Bob finally came home and I opened the apartment door and saw Bob standing there, my only comment was, "'Are you alright?"  Well, that was the icing on the cake and Bob said this isn't so bad; she's not mad at me.

To this date, Bob and I have always been together, attending lectures, watching him teach the Harry Lorayne Memory Course, going to conventions and hanging out with all the greats of magic.  I even attended the 4 Fs.  I guess Obie O'Brien felt sorry for me because our wedding anniversary (April 24th) always fell on the weekend of the convention. So for many years, Bob was away with the guys.  So from the beginning I have seen the best.

I don't do any magic but I know the moves and am asked for my opinions.  At the conventions, I would watch the close-up and stage shows and look for the newcomers and tell Bob who he should take a look at.  We are known as one of the few couples in magic who love magic.  I believe that to be so, because more than likely, most wives or girlfriends have been exposed to bad magic and were subsequently turned off.

We have met, housed and been entertained by Magicians from all over the world.  Bob is a great teacher and loves to pass his knowledge along to younger people who have an eagerness to learn.  He is very giving, but stresses the fact that if your grades in school drop, he doesn't want to know you.  Needless to say, the children's grades were astonishingly better.  Bob always said, magic is a great door opener, but an education is the most important thing in the world.

Magic has gotten lots of kids into college and many go on to bigger and better things.  They come back to Bob years later (either CEOs of their own companies or in a great job) and say, "Do you remember you taught me my first trick?"  Bob is known as "The Giver".   He asks for nothing in return, just that they pass along something to the next person.

When people ask Bob if he's a professional, he always responds, "Remember, amateurs built the Ark and the professionals built the Titanic."  Bob calls me his TWERP, the woman Elliott rates perfect.  I guess I must be, since I let magic into our lives.

Magic will continue to be a part of our lives and we look forward to those people we meet along the way who share our same love of the art.

Testimonials About Bob Elliott

Thinking of Bob Elliott automatically makes me smile--a smile born of love, humor and admiration.  He rubbed shoulders with every big name in magic, and had funny stories about them all.  He was generous on every level, freely giving the most precious commodity--his time and talent.

I've often thought that if I ever grew up, I'd want to be like Bob.  He's touched so many lives in this way, that there is no telling how many future generations will be touched by the light from this shining star!  I only wish I could be there in person to bask in the glow of his huge personality, and to hug and slap those broad shoulders again.  But someday soon my friend!  Until then!  All my love, Michael Ammar

From the first time I met Mr. Elliott he was kind, generous and a wonderful human being who got joy out of giving.  This is very unique in the world that we live, but especially rare in magic.  I hope that we will all learn, including myself, with Bob's mantra of giving, teaching and caring so that magic can reach its pinnacle.  Thank you Mr. Elliot and family for your support over the years.  Congratulations on achieving your success, which cannot be measured.  Love, Criss Angel

"Who are you?" I said, after seeing some GOOD magic by the new member of our Magic Club.  Bob... Mr. Elliott, proceeded to show me two magazines with his face on each of the front covers.  We named names between us and afterwards, I too wanted his license plate .... He knows everyone!  Needless to say I kept him after class so that I could learn more from his history and skills.  I now know how to do the NY Salute after only a few weeks of practice with Bob’s kindly guidance.

Working with Bob at a medicine show, we were scheduled for thirty minutes ... would you believe we were there for one hour forty minutes?

With support from a great American family, the Elliott's, and their love, we made this film for the second anniversary of the Award presented to a man of distinction.  Thanks for the laughs and for giving me the time of day to put this on film.  With love, Magic, Unity, & Might, Ken Ayers  (July 18, 2009)

I first met Bob when I was a kid at Tannen's in NYC.  I was probably 12 years old.  I will not forget how he treated me like a star ... not that I was but he made me feel this way.  Over the years I saw him time after time and we have met a few times. Bob always wanted to share, help, show another move, in which a few I am still using till this very day.  His magic and more than that his Magical personality is something that no one will take from him.  Although we have not kept in touch on a regular basis, every time that I see Bob, it is as if we never were apart.  His heart and his wonderful wife Happy are an inspiration to our art, and especially to me!  Wishing you many, many more years of magic and friendship!  Yours, Guy Bavli

John Blake

I've known Bob since 1972 when I first wandered into Lou Tannen's magic shop in N.Y.C..  I was 19 years old when I saw this gentleman doing this awesome magic not using anything but a deck of cards and some coins.  He saw me looking at his magic and called me over for a closer look.  As scared as I was I reluctantly went over to him and he asked me what kind of magic did I do?  I told Bob that I wanted to learn what I had just witnessed him doing.  He recommended a couple of books to peak my interest.

Bob must have spent about an hour and a half with me and all this for maybe a $15.00 sale.  After I paid for the books I thanked him for his time.  He replied if I ever have trouble with anything that he would help me with it.  I told him "Wow, it must be great working here."  Bob then laughed and told me, "I don't work here."  I was shocked, to say the least, because I had just given him my money.  Throughout the years Bob has always helped me as well as countless others, many of whom you see on television.  Bob has always been a Giver and never asks for anything in return.

I love Bob like an older brother.  I will always be grateful to Bob and his lovely wife Happy; for they truly are the best people you will ever have the pleasure of meeting and knowing.  Words cannot describe what they have done for me personally.  I love you both dearly.  Many thanks.  John Blake (Aug. 8, 2007)

How does he do it?  Bob Elliott is a dynamo.  Bob has many interests and he dives into them all with passion and enthusiasm.  Who can count how many up and coming young Magi have been helped along by Bob's advice and encouragement?   I remember being taken under Bob's wing, right off the turnip truck from Iowa.  I was young and naïve and knew little of the real world.  Now imagine this 17-year-old rube being plopped down in the heart of New York City!  Bob was there with a friendly smile, inviting me into his home with several other now-notable Magicians.  I thought I landed in magic heaven!

Bob is an accomplished Magician and performer and a real booster for the art in general.  The New York Magic scene owes Bob a great debt for keeping magic alive in the city.  Bob is helpful and encouraging to all, and his contagious enthusiasm keeps you excited about magic and participating in it.  He has brought in countless unknowns from around the globe, giving them an opportunity to share their ideas and move on to become the movers and shakers of magic.  Bob is a friend to all, and I am happy and proud to call him my own. He's a great guy, and I'm a great fan.  John Carney

Awesome website for an awesome magician and his awesome wife.  Bob has influenced my magic for many years also...whether he knows it or not!  Keep this website going...it's great!  Natt Chomsky (July 23, 2007)

Bob Elliott sat across from me at a New York City diner.   We had just finished our meal, and the waitress dropped our check on the table.  I went to reach for the check; after all, Bob had been a mentor of mine for roughly twenty years.  The least I could do was cover his lunch.

"Cohen," he barked at me.  "Reach your hand over here.  Reach over and feel this bicep.  Feel it."  Bob flexed and extended his upper arm towards me.  Beneath his short sleeve, I felt a solid rock of a bicep.  He continued, "If you even THINK of paying for this meal, this arm is going to punch you so hard, you're not going to even know what hit you."  Behind his eternally dark glasses, I was sure I could see a twinkle in his eyes...

Bob Elliott came into my life at Tannen's Magic Camp, when I was a young teenager.  He taught me--and hundreds of other young magicians--how to recognize good magic.  In my professional work today, I still perform advanced sleight of hand techniques that Bob taught me over twenty years ago.  I think about him each time I use those sleights.  Thanks to Bob, I was introduced to some of the finest magicians in the world, and I will always be grateful for the care and love that he has showered on me.  Thank you, Bob, for teaching me integrity.  Steve Cohen

Bob Elliott, a.k.a. Elliott the Great.  What good and great things can I say about Bob, that haven’t already been said--by Bob?  No, seriously; I have only known Bob for a little more than seven years but in that time I have come to know him as a Great Magician, a Great teacher and a Great friend.  I have also learned that he is not a great driver and he snores.  But I don't think I am giving away any secrets there.  As he even says, "If you don't like the way I drive, then get off the sidewalk."

Bob is one of those truly rare individuals who are happiest when he is "Giving", rather than "Getting".  He is generous to a fault.  He gives his time freely to committed students of magic, and I have seen him countless times give away a magic prop or trick simply because the observing Magi commented that he liked it a lot.  I have seen him give away hundreds of half dollars to children; finding them behind their "Cash Ear."  He loves to see the look in their eyes and thrives on the thrill of that simple "magic moment."

I know Bob to be a caring yet firm teacher of magic.  He taught my son move after move, carefully reviewing on a weekly basis his progress.  He expertly, yet critically, explained the little details and timing of patter which allowed my son to perform the best material around.  Bob made him do it right, and as a condition of continued "lessons" required a regular review of my son's report card.  Always emphasizing schoolwork first; magic second.

There are many who are much more qualified to comment on Bob’s magic expertise, and many who owe Bob much from a lifelong friendship, but I will comment on the tremendous positive impact he had on my son, Brendan, bringing him from a typically shy 10-year-old to a confident, award-winning honor student in high school.  Without Bob and his magic, my son would not be where he is today.

We've had the pleasure of traveling with Bob and Happy to magic events in NY, PA, and most recently Cape Cod, lovingly listening to his wonderful stories, mostly about how terrific everyone else is and has been to him and Happy.  In closing, all I can say is God bless Bob and Happy, and I am so glad to be one of the guys that can simply call Bob...GREAT.  Pat Colby

Here's what I would like to tell Bob.....The first time I came to this country was in 1991; for a couple of weeks.  I used to say I came with two suitcases, one full of tricks and one full of hope!  I landed in New York, scared and disoriented; after all, as I said, this was my first time in the land of dreams and opportunities.  A man was waiting for me at the airport; I only knew his name, Bob Elliott.  Yes, Bob was the first man I ever met in the USA and despite this, I fell in love with the country!  Of course, I fell in love with the man and his wife (Happy) first.

Happy, God bless your way to be patient with both Bob and I.  They took care of me like I was their child (there was not a big age difference), but they felt compelled to protect me like I was a sheep in the jungle, and for some reasons I felt that way.  Well, we became good friends. Bob is the kind of man that gives you everything he has.  I was his guest for almost two weeks and I don't think I was allowed to touch my wallet (thanks Bob, because at that time it was empty!).

Bob, I love you; you know that my love is only a small part of the love that the magic community has given you and will always give you.  You are a kind and generous person, you are a friend, you are a mentor, you are simply my brother.  Happy, thanks for taking care of the man, and me, and thanks for not strangling him every time he deserved to be strangled (probably at least two times a day).  Thanks Bob.  Aldo Colombini

John Cornelius

Ask anyone in Magic who has met Bob Elliot, and they will always say, "What a great guy!"  I agree!  I first met Bob Elliot in the 1970s.  It was my first lecture tour.  I was to lecture in four cities in the New York area.  Bob picked me up at the airport: on the way he taught me how to drive in New York traffic.  We needed to switch lanes, so Bob said: "See this guy on the right?  He thinks he is not going to let me in.  Watch this."  In a couple of seconds we were in the right lane, and it was not because the guy on the right was polite; it was because Bob scared the heck out of him just by pulling over without giving in.

I had just invented an electronic trick which cost me about $1,200 and a year's worth of work.  I had it with me because I was going to show it to someone in New York.  I carried it with me everywhere in a briefcase because I did not want to let it out of my sight.  Bob and I met with a few Magicians at a restaurant to have a session.  When we left someone kindly said, "Here, let me carry that for you".  I was tired, so I obliged.  A few of us piled in Bob's car and drove for about ten minutes through the streets of New York.

Someone jammed on their brakes in front of Bob, and Bob jammed on his brakes in response.  We all heard a loud crash, and then noticed, sitting on top of Bob's hood of his car was my briefcase with the $1,200 electronic trick inside.  It seems that when we got into the car, someone had left my briefcase on the top of Bob's car.  It was amazing how the briefcase stayed on the roof of Bob's car through all of that traffic.

Later that night I arrived at Bob's house.  Normally I felt more comfortable staying at a hotel rather than someone's house, but when I got to Bob and Happy's house, they were the perfect hosts!  Bob told me, "There is the refrigerator and there is beer in there; your room is upstairs.  Now get lost and don't bother me, unless you need something!"  What a Great Guy!

I can honestly say that after being in magic for over forty years, that I can truly count all of the exceptional people I have met on the fingers of my right hand.  Bob is one of these people.  (I am not going to tell you which finger Bob is!)  Best of luck to you and Happy!

PS: I once heard that Bob Elliott did a local club lecture.  At the end of the lecture he said, "I do not have any lecture notes for sale, but if you got anything out of the lecture, please buy a box of my daughter's Girl Scout cookies."  He then put a bunch of boxes of Girl Scout cookies onto the table.  What a guy!  John Cornelius

There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe what a great guy Bob Elliott is.  From the first time I saw him I was awed, seeing him do impromptu magic for some folks in the lobby of a hotel (non-Magicians).  Then meeting him and it turned out he was a member of the magic club I had just joined. Wow!

I met him and he was so down to earth.  He was always so happy to offer help, to teach, to share but most of all he offered genuine friendship.  Whenever you needed him or Happy, boy, they were right there for you.  What a great couple, what GREAT friends.  That was some time ago I met Bob and Happy, I've been doing magic full time now for 19 years.  I owe a lot to his help and insight (not just in magic).

There is a saying "Real and true success is not how successful you become, but how successful you make other people."  Bob didn't quote that but he sure exemplified it.  Bob, you're one in a million!  Al Coury

Steve Dacri

I first met Bob Elliott at Tannen's in New York in the early 70s.  Lou had recently retired and Irv and Tony were running the joint.  Irv introduced me to Bob one day, in the back office.  We shared many ideas about magic and presentation and other world issues during many memorable meals, usually lunch, with a few other guys like Harry Lorayne, Frank Garcia and Sam Schwartz and Ed Mishel.

Those were heady days, and the magic affected me deeply.  Bob inspired me to constantly learn and study and never be satisfied with my performances.  Years later, we re-connected when I performed at one of the Jubilee's in the Catskills.  I remember he was running the close-up show, which was always a big highlight of the Jubilee, with six or seven Magicians performing in about 5 rooms, and all of the performers were gathered and awaiting at some unfathomable early morning hour, half-listening as Bob gave us our instructions and went through the performing schedule.

He explained we had a very short five minutes or less set-up time between shows, and one of the performers said something about needing more time to set himself up between shows.  Bob said, "You need more time?  How about all day?  I think we can get by without you.  Anybody else need more time?"

Bob is one of those rare treasures in magic, and a hidden treasure at that.  Not one to take credit or point out his contributions, there are many professional Magicians today who owe their careers (in whole or part) to Bob.  Bob absorbed magic from some of the masters, like Tony Slydini and Frank, and he studied magic with a passion.

He became a great performer himself, and his level of skill as an entertainer served as an inspiration to so many of us.  He was always one of those performers who you knew you would learn from watching.  He still is.  He showed me a few coin moves a couple of weeks ago that knocked me out.  He reminded me once again of how talented he is.

He called me one time, out of the blue, and he was in the New York office of Ace Greenberg.  He said, "I'm here with Ace, and he wanted to come to your recent lecture, but couldn't make it.  Can you send him one of your lecture books?"  He gave me Ace's address and had me autograph the book for him.  I even sent it overnight to him.  Bob later told me Ace really loved the book.   I never got paid for it.

I was honored to have Bob and Happy accept my invitation to be my guest at a recent San Diego show I did.  He looked great and after the show he said, "I laughed my balls off."  Coming from Bob, this was an outstanding and most appreciated compliment.  I am proud to know Bob, and I consider him a very special friend.  It's about time we honor him for his countless, tireless contributions to the world of magic and Magicians.  Salute, Bob.  Steve Dacri

Daryl

Bob is the best!  Our first meeting left a lasting impression with me that I'll treasure for the rest of my life. It was in the early eighties and I was in my twenties.  Due to a miscommunication, a few of my lectures were cancelled and I was stranded in New York City with nothing to do and nowhere to stay.

Like a knight in shining armor, Bob Elliott and his silver mane came to the rescue!  Although we had never met before, Bob and Happy took me into their home and shared their kind hospitality--along with delicious food and a comfortable place to sleep--for several days.  Then, without a word being mentioned, Bob made a few calls (he knows EVERYBODY!) and arranged the details for the next portion of my lecture tour.  Bob Elliott is one in a billion and anyone who's anyone will tell you the same.  I'm proud to call Bob my friend.  Daryl

Mark DeSouza

What can I say about Bob Elliott that every tabloid hasn't already said?  Well, I can only tell you of my experiences with Bob.  I've know him for over 35 years.  He was my teacher when I took the Harry Lorayne (or as Happy would refer to him, Harvey Lorayne) Memory Course as a teenager.  He was not only a great teacher of the course, but I had the bonus of having him show me so much great close-up magic.

We had a running joke for many years that he could not remember my name when we saw each other at conventions.  Then after I got married the first time, he could never remember my wife's name.  By the time he could remember it, we were divorced.  Let this be a lesson...if you want to stay married, don't let Bob learn your wife's name.

Over the years, Bob has been a great friend to magic and Magicians.  He has created and published some terrific routines.  Bob and I became much closer when we started "trading" lecturers.  Anytime I had someone coming in to lecture, my first call was to Bob to see if he wanted to book him as well.  It never really mattered who the guy was or what he did; Bob only wanted to know if he was a nice guy and not a jerk.  Ok, he used a stronger word, but I'm assuming this is to be G-rated.

When Bob told me he was moving West I was sorry to lose a good friend, but our loss is California's gain.  We all miss you around here Bob.  Here is to one of the nicest guys I know in magic or otherwise.  With all my best regards, Marc DeSouza

Gerald Deutsch

Bob and I have been friends for many years and I will always cherish how we shared magic together when he lived in New York.  One of us would show the other an effect and comments would flow as to how the effect could be improved, or, so often with Bob, how the effect was perfect just the way it was done.   Bob is a warm and generous person and I've seen him so many times go up to a youngster in a restaurant and produce silver dollars and then give the money to the youngster "as a souvenir'".  Gerald Deutsch

Devlin

The first time I ever crossed paths with Bob was at Tannen's Magic Camp in 1982.  I had just finished performing my act for the kids at the camp and I could feel the tension which had haunted me all day slowly slip away.  All of a sudden there was this tall, handsome man approaching me with his hand extended ready to shake mine. "WOW!" he said, "What a terrific job, Thank you!"  For a twenty-year-old kid, not accustomed to receiving those kinds of compliments, Bob's words were very motivating.

Bob was considered a giant in the New York magic scene. Along with that came a giant heart.  Over the years he has freely given me advice, compliments and offered me his experience.  He has critiqued my work as per my request and has made suggestions for my act that I use to this day.  Throughout the years I have had opportunities to perform with Bob and I would watch in amazement at the ease he would handle an audience.  I think Bob's secret is he just loves to perform.  He loves his audience and is fulfilled the most when he gives of himself.

It was a proud moment when I was asked to perform at Bob's daughter Jennifer's birthday party.  With that invitation came an acceptance that I had some how finally become the Magician that Bob respected.  It truly complimented me to be asked.  In the 25 years or so that I've known Bob, I have become that Professional Magician that I once dreamt of becoming.

I have traveled the world several times over and I have received many compliments, but somehow Mr. Bob Elliott's compliment to me, as a young man, at Tannen's Camp so long ago, remains one of the purest.  When I found Magic I was indeed reborn and I am happy that Bob was one of the people who were there to raise me.  I salute you Mr. Elliott.  Please continue to amaze us.  Your friend, The Matador of Magic, Devlin

Craig R. Dickson

Well, it is a real pleasure to write anything about a guy that has done so much for magic.  The toughest part is where to begin.  Let me just tell you about what kind of friend Bob is.  Being a dealer, it humbles me when friends drag friends over and say things like "you need to buy something here; he's a good guy and has the best stuff".

Bob goes much further.  First he buys a trick from you, won't take it for free, no never, and won't take even a discount stating things like "if you gave all your friends a discount, you would not be in business, and then we would all lose".  Then he proceeds to add the Elliott touches to it, goes all over the convention showing it off, and like the Pied Piper, leads droves of believers back to your booth to hear him say, "And this is where you get it".  And they are happy he did; unbelievable.

I always look forward to Bob's arrival to see what nuances, variations and tips he so openly shares.  I always learn something new from Bob, and so does anyone that crosses his path.  He is one of the most creative and giving people I have had the honor to call friend.  Pick a topic or a move, and then ask Bob.  He's also like a big kid.

For as long as I have known him and Happy, and that has been quite a long time, I have been collecting his personal effects left at my booth and chasing him down to return them. Nobody's kid, but someone you are just a better person for knowing.  From the contributors to this, you can see how many friends Bob has; it reads like a who's who.  I worked with Bob so many times as a Close-Up host at the Tannen's Jubilees, I would never say no, it was for Bob.  He organized some of the best close-up sessions in the world. A world-class guy, and a world-class friend; that's the Bob I know.  Craig R. Dickson

Bud Dietrich & Audrey Dietrich

Members of IBM Ring 76: In my estimation you could not be honoring a more worthy master Magician than Bob Elliott.  His generosity and unselfish nature to every Magician he knows sets him apart from any Magician I have met.  In my heyday I worked many three-week engagements in New York.

I remember going to the Magician's Round Table and on one of those occasions I met Bob Elliott.  We became instant friends and as I was leaving to fly home he walked me to the door and told me he had a trick he wanted to send me and asked for my address.  I reached for my business card and he said, "Just tell me your address and phone number"; well, I did.

When I returned home I told my wife about meeting Bob and that he asked me to tell him my address and that he was going to send me a trick; I told her not to hold her breath.  Four days later the trick arrived.

One year Brother John Hamman, Ricky Jay, Derek Dingle and myself were representing the Americans in close-up at FISM in Paris.  We went there on an Emile Loewe tour with Bob, Hap and a wonderful group of people from New York and Washington, D.C.  While we were waiting for our flight to leave from New York, somewhere along the line we lost Bob.

While we were searching for him we saw a group of Japanese tourists laughing and chattering.  We walked over to the crowd to see what was going on and there in the middle of them was Bob doing what he does best, making people happy and laugh.  I don’t know if you know this but Bob substituted for Harry Lorayne many times when he was not available to make his appearance doing his memory act.

I remember when I was working a trade show at the Javis Center on 8th Avenue and while I was working I saw a guy leaning against a pole; he had white hair and he was really staring at me and never changing the appearance on his face.  After I finished he walked over to me, and then I realized who he was, Bob Elliott.  He had snow-white hair and I never recognized him.  When my wife Audrey saw him a year or so later she said, "It really makes him look handsome."

I could go on and on about Bob, like the time he came to pick me up after a trade show in July when the temperatures were in the upper 90’s and he locked keys in his car with the air conditioning on.  We tried everything we knew to get it open.  Would you believe a layperson that was with me opened it for Bob and he said, "Don't you guys tell me how good of Magicians you are!"  Bob, we love you.  Bud & Audrey Dietrich

Bob Dorian

Bob was and is one of magic’s greatest ambassadors, having shown thousands of kids that they had "cash-ears".  For more than 20 years, the highlight of Tannen's three-day Convention was the Saturday morning close-up sessions.  Perfectly coordinated, with some of the finest close-up magic in the world, all this would never have existed without the tireless efforts of Bob Elliott.  Best wishes, Bob Dorian

Doc Eason

Bob Elliott has had a huge influence on the world of magic.  But unless you have been on the "Bob Elliot lecture tour" you haven't experienced his hospitality and his heart.  Many mornings I sat at the kitchen table in Cold Spring Harbor and swapped stories, but what I remember most is when I took a phone call from my daughter.  As she and I connected, the best we could from 2000 miles away, and we uttered our little terms of endearment to each other, I glanced at Bob and he was wiping a tear away.  He was touched by the tenderness between my young daughter and my self.

He is such a softie!  Much of our time together was spent talking about family, and how, in this crazy business, it is possible to keep it all together.  I have tremendous respect and admiration for Bob and Happy.  Bob, I wish I was there to help you celebrate but I am celebrating my own birthday.  Love you buddy.  Thanks for everything.  Doc Eason

John Ferrentino

When I first went to perform at the Tannen's Magic Camp, I was told that I'd see many stars.  The first person that I saw was a man with white hair and rose-colored glasses who looked to me like Bob Little doing an impression of Elton John.  The other thing that I noticed was that the kids followed him around as if he was the Pied Piper.

Although he wasn't as famous as Elton John, to the kids, he was far more important.  In fact, his hard work and dedication at the camp was the thing that kept me going back year after year.  Plus, he was the only real Magician that respected what I did despite our separate worlds of close-up and comedy.  But that's the kind of guy that Bob is.  With such a deep love for the craft, he is one of the few who appreciates all aspects of it including those tricks which he doesn't choose to do.  Some people think that he's a great close-up Magician, but besides that, to me, he will always be a great friend.  John Ferrentino

Bob Fitch

Bob Elliott!  Bob who?  Oh, you mean, happy Bob, friendly Bob, charming Bob, magic Bob!  Bob the great salesman; who always sells you on "life"!  With his joy & enthusiasm, his freshness & humor, his exuberance & excitement when he surrounds you with his toys, his skills, talents and his discoveries.

With Bob, you feel you finally have experienced magic, as an art; that you've seen the real secrets behind the magic, as expressed by the magic, namely, The Man!  And his mysteries only demonstrate that.

With Bob you feel befriended, uplifted and oftentimes, out of yourself.  A session with Bob always gave me an attack of my own cheery youthfulness.  I felt glad to be alive.  Just thinking about him now gives me that same happy glow.  He is a rare guy and a treasure.  He is a friend, globally, with the best in the business, also from whom he has learned and taught, an enchanter who cannot only charm men, women and beasts, but who can bring out the best in all of them.

Anyone who has met Bob can never forget him.  I can’t forget him because he told me (about my coin work) that I did the "old fashioned stuff", i.e. the hard stuff!  I have become very fond of that appellation.  I am very proud to know Mr. Bob Elliott (and Happy) to be able to say a few words about him.  (I'm also proud to be able to say that I fooled him--once!)

Now, can anyone tell me how he does it?  Congratulations Bob.  This day of appreciation should have come a long time ago.  My love to you and Happy.  I hope to see you out West again.  Cheers, Bob Fitch

Jonathan Frede

I have been honored to know Bob for over 15 years and have been the beneficiary of his advice, teaching and friendship for all of that time.  I was disappointed when he chose to leave Long Island and adventure west but wish him and Happy only many more years of joy, happiness and love.  Their years together have been magically in many ways and they deserve many, many more while they enjoy the wrong ocean.  Jonathan Frede (July 24, 2007)

Al Garber

I never realized how lucky I was to live near Bob and see him all the time UNTIL I heard he was moving away from Long Island.  I congratulated him at one of our I.B.M. Ring 244 meetings on his move but inside I was feeling bummed out because I knew I wouldn't get to see him often anymore.  Bob has the ability to make you feel good and put a smile on your face every time you see him!

He always shows me a great trick and takes the time to teach it to me even if he has to go over it repeatedly.  I feel like he's as close as you can get to a Magic God!  Every major Magician who traveled to our area stayed at Bob's House.  I remember being invited to see a lecture at Bob's house and it was as if I was one of the chosen few to have this opportunity.

I remember Bob saying to me, "Do you know Happy"?  I thought he was going into a "Who's on first routine"!  Happy Elliott is a wonderful and sweet lady who is always spreading her own form of Magic.  There aren't many wives who are willing to spend their free time watching trick after trick, not too mention entertaining the varied group of conjurors vying for Bob's attention!   One of Bob's proudest moments was when he was informed that he was being honored by having an I.B.M. Ring named after him!  Congratulations Bob and Happy on receiving this well deserved Award of Distinction!  With Love and Respect, Magic, Al Garber

Why Bob Elliott Couldn't Be My Father:  Bob Elliott does a few magic tricks extremely well, made good money with a real job, is fairly well organized, suffers other Magicians well, and has a Harry Lorayne-esque memory.  Therefore, no DNA testing is required; he couldn't be my father.  Q.E.D.

On the other hand we both married fantastic women.  Everyone who knows Happy, or who was fortunate to be on their Christmas Card list when she wrote the annual "letter", can tell you that her sense of humor is far superior to Bob's.  As both our wives are prone to say, "We have to have a real sense of humor to put up with you guys."

My association with Bob goes back over two decades. I think I first met him at the first Tom-Foolery Bash hosted by Tom Mullica at his bar in Atlanta.  Bob fried me good with his amazing coin changing routines and his card to wallet.  I see Bob every time he comes to the FFFF "original close-up magic convention" in upstate New York, and I've had the privilege of being a house guest of Bob and Happy's in their former Long Island estate.  Bob has helped me arrange lectures on the East Coast.

I am certainly honored to be a part of this tribute to my good friend Bob Elliott, and I hope this makes up for that little dinky trophy you gave him.  Dan Garrett

Paul Gertner

Congratulations to Bob Elliott on this award honoring his lifetime contribution to the art of magic.  When I think of Bob Elliott, three things come to mind; enthusiasm, a new trick, and a big crowd.  At almost every magic convention that I attended I could always count on finding Bob smack in the middle of a big crowd hanging on his every word as he excitedly demonstrated a new trick or handling that quickly became the talk of the convention.

Of course after he fooled everyone, he got just as much of a kick out of revealing the exact method step-by-step, making sure that anyone that wanted to learn left with the real work.  You can tell Bob's passion is teaching the magic even more than performing the trick.

Some of my best magic convention memories involve seeing Bob Elliott holding court along with his good friends Del Cartier, Bob Haines, Derek Dingle and others from the New York inner circle who were all so kind and willing to invite a young new Magician to join in on the fun.  Thanks Bob for your passion, love, excitement and enthusiasm.  You remain a true inspiration when I think of a life well-lived.  We love you.  Paul Gertner

I am honored to participate in this celebration of Bob and Happy.  Notice, I included Happy too.  Let's face it, Bob, she is the real magic in the relationship.  For those of you who do not know him, Bob has been around a long time.  In fact, here is a little secret.  You know those references to cups and balls in the Egyptian pyramids?  That's Bob performing!

I met Bob at the age of 17.  A budding magician, Bob and Happy took me in and spent countless hours training me.  Bob just gave and gave and gave of himself and NEVER asked or would even accept anything in return.  (Offer Bob money or a present and you are DEAD!  I mean it.  They will never find your body.)  Bob's only payment was that you would be nice to other people and that you make sure that you teach the next generation FOR FREE (Something I do whenever asked).  Bob's favorite line, "Be nice to people".

You changed my life (as well as the lives of countless magicians around the world) and inspired me to achieve better and higher goals.  If one could convert the generosity and love you have delved out over time into money, we would eliminate the deficit of every nation in the world and everyone would be wealthy.  The truth is, without you, magic would just not be the same!  You are not only my mentors but also my surrogate parents.  I love you and miss you here in NY.  All the best.  Michael Goldman (Aug. 16, 2007)

What if I told you that once upon a time there was a couple in New York that would take in any visiting Magician and house and feed him until he got on his feet?

What if I told you that the husband would help arrange lectures for visiting Magicians and never think of charging for his services?  What if I told you that once upon a time that there was a Magician in New York who loved to share his ideas and thoughts on magic with every deserving person?

What if I told you there was a man in New York who has known virtually every close-up Magician in the world that has lived during the last 40 years and loves to pass on his experiences with those personalities to any and all.

This is not a fairy tale and there is such a person and that person is Bob Elliott and his biggest fan is his wife Happy.  These two people have carved out a special niche for themselves in the lore of magic in the United States.

I personally have been the beneficiary of Bob’s help over the many years.  These are two remarkable people and certainly deserve recognition from our fraternity.  Ace Greenberg

Gee, I feel cheated; I've only known Bob for 20 years or so.  Ours was an interesting relationship.  He was a serious teacher and mentor and also appeared for me at many, many, many events that our company staged.  You’re not supposed to love those that work with you, but with Bob, how can you fail to feel the love, respect, and a whole bunch of superlatives I can't spell.  His energy, his wit, his one liners (Hey Bob, did you write for Henny Youngman?).  I 'm angry with you Bob: how dare you leave Long Island!

Did you ever hear Bob brag about his children?  How dare you sound like you love your children more than I love mine!  Did you ever hear him talk about Happy and how she was the delight in his light?  My G-d, until I finally met this sweet Lady of Magic, I thought how could Bob marry a woman Seven feet tall; then I came to realize it was her stature in his heart, but he was wrong, Happy Elliott is one foot tall for each of the letters in her happy name.  Gee Bob, a 12 foot long Bed?

I won't talk about Bob the Magician; it was Bob the man, Bob the entertainer, Bob the Husband, the father, Bob the host, Bob the teacher, Bob the mentor, Bob my friend that I am so fond of remembering and sharing stories about.  There aren't enough words to say thank you, nor are their enough languages to say them in that would barely scratch the surface of the impacts that Bob has had on his wife and children, people the industry and indeed his family of families which encompasses the entire world that he brought Magic to.

Just think about some of our magical brethren (that included the international sisterhood and brotherhood of Magic) that entertain all over the world that he and his disciples have performed for.  How many would still be performing only as a hobby, or youngsters that would have stopped after their teen years evaporated.  Bob and Happy, I salute you as Mr. & Mrs. Magic of all time.  Love always!  Uncle Marty Greenstein (Sep. 10, 2008)

Bjorn Hanson

I was one of Bob's students in the Frank Garcia School for Magicians in 1974.  His love of magic and teaching was then and is still overwhelming.  As excited as we were to be learning the great magic techniques he taught, Bob was just as excited to share his extraordinary knowledge.

Class ended much later than scheduled every night because Bob had one more trick or technique to share, and then just one more, and then another - and we were ready to stay until he needed to get home without being in too much trouble with Happy for being even later than normal, or until the Ramada Inn management told us to leave, whichever was later.

Because of Bob I joined IBM and Ring 26.  Bob understands and teaches that magic is only sleightly (intentional misspelling!) about technique and mostly about people - other Magicians, magic students and our audiences.  And Bob is also a phenomenal technician; he knows a great move when he sees one; has the skill to perform the "real work" and knows how to apply techniques to their best uses.

In addition to serving as the Ring 26 Lab Co-chair, he was social director, sponsor, tutor, recruiter, cheerleader, archivist, mentor and whatever else was needed.  I was thrilled to call Bob and tell him that I was another of his students performing at The Magic Castle when I first performed there in 1987 and I mentioned Bob in the text of my first trick published in "Genii" because I have always thought of Bob as my mentor.

I look forward to my telephone calls with or seeing Bob at magic events because he always has a pearl of wisdom to share, a new move to demonstrate and positive attitude that makes the day special.   I am grateful to be a member of the enormous community of those who have been the beneficiaries of the many gifts of sharing and generosity of Bob and Happy!  Bjorn Hanson, Ph.D.

Bob is just a great and wonderful human being.  All of us that have had the good fortune to have spent time with him and come to know him, know how fortunate and "blessed" we are.  It was with Bob that I went to the airport one cold winter day in the early 1990's to pick-up Rene Lavand, a great friendship that Bob also made possible.  Because of Bob I went "knee-deep" as a collector of Disney animation cells, and because of Bob I always wear a seat belt...once you drive with him you will forever wear your safety belt!  God bless you Bob...I truly miss you!!  Tu Amigo, Joe Hernandez, Int'l Latin Music Hall of Fame (Dec. 10, 2007)

Rob Herritt

Meeting Bob Elliott was the most important event of my young life.  I first encountered him at a Magician's hangout near the Hickesville magic shop in Long Island.  Being a cocky thirteen-year-old and never having seen Bob in person, I strolled up to his table and launched into some highly-technical, though ill-practiced, card tricks expecting to wow some of the veterans.  Bob politely complimented the tricks, introduced himself, and proceeded to show me about an hour of the best magic I had ever seen.  He did effortless work, not just with cards and coins, but with any object he decided to pick up.  I don't think I've ever been fooled that badly before or since.  Nor have I been so humbled.  It wasn't long after that day that I began showing up every Saturday afternoon at the magic shop for lessons from a master Magician.  Bob had decided to make me a part of his family.

The education I received from Bob in the decade following that day in Hickesville goes well beyond the art of magic.  For those formative years of my life, I experienced first-hand the greatness that can be achieved through selfless devotion to a craft.  By greatness I don't mean Bob's talents as a sleight-of-hand artist and a performer, which are world-class, but rather his much rarer and more amazing gift: his generosity.  The tremendous kindness, patience, and love that Bob has shown me throughout the years are of the sort one would expect only from a parent.  In return, he has asked only that I do the same for someone else one day.

It is from this unbounded care for magic and for all those who share his love of it that I draw inspiration.  The world of conjuring has been permanently advanced and continues to prosper from Bob Elliott's benevolence and genius.  He has touched my life and left me profoundly grateful.  I only hope to make good on my promise to him, to nurture the art of magic with magnanimity and wisdom, just as he has done for so many years.  Rob Herritt

Wesley James

I have been pleased to call Bob my friend for more years than he would probably want me to count.  I'll simply say that I knew him before he knew his lovely wife, Happy.  Having know him all that time, I can testify to his devotion to magic and his dedication to teaching magic to all who are serious in their interest and regard for our art.  In addition, I've witnessed Bob's commitment to using his magic skills to bring the joy of wonder to audiences and to lend his abilities any time a worthy cause that has needed him.

One could not ask more from a man who has been a lifelong amateur Magician.  Bob exemplifies the love for magic that should define the amateur.  He also demonstrates how truly brotherly a Magician can be to the many friends in our fraternity he has made.  Bob has continually opened his heart and his home to visiting Magicians from all over the world.  It is this generosity of spirit that has cemented the affection so many of us who've known him well feel for him.  Thus, one could not ask for a better friend in our beloved art.  I am, therefore, proud to include Bob among my dearest friends.   I hope Bob is thoroughly surprised and honored by your event and I hope he knows that I wish him only the best in all the years he has ahead.  Sincerely, Wesley James

Bob Elliot wears so many top hats: performer, inventor, teacher, and scholar. He fulfills each role with grace and style.  I'm so pleased to know him, and I consider him not only a wonderful Magician, but also a valued friend.  Joshua Jay

Bill Kalush

Twenty-five years ago on the steps of the Forks hotel in Buffalo, New York, Bob Elliott changed my life.  He invited me, a young Magician who knew almost no one, to visit his home if ever in the East.  It didn't take long.  Within the year I had finagled enough money to make my way to New York and I took him up on his kind offer.  His wonderful home was a portal to everything magical and wonderful in New York.

Bob and Happy's amazing hospitality was not just extended to me, but to many or nearly all of the Magicians passing through town.  Over the years everyone, and I mean everyone, stayed and Bob made sure that his home was the center of New York magic.  To say that Bob Elliott has changed the face of magic is an understatement.  Just as impressive as his generosity is Bob's skill as Magician.

Bob not only knows what a good effect is but his ability to handle difficult material with ease is world class.  I consider it a great honor to know Bob Elliott and I'm certain that my journey through the magic world would have been greatly impaired and far less interesting if I had not met Bob Elliott that fateful evening at the Forks.  Bill Kalush

Richard Kaufman

I've known Bob Elliott as long as I've known almost anyone in magic.  He's very old, of course, so that makes perfect sense.  Come to think of it, I'm almost 50 myself, so Bob must be REALLY old now.

Bob used to be a fixture at Lou Tannen’s Magic Shop on 1540 Broadway in the early 1970s.  I spent many, many hours watching him do the most incredibly difficult magic--he learned it all from Derek Dingle, of course, but since no one else could do Dingle's magic but Bob, that still made it pretty impressive.  Bob was a hotshot: jet black hair, smart business suit, confident as hell ... he was the definition of "cool".

In 1972, when I was 14-years-old, his generosity had a direct and profound impact on my life.  The bastard taught me a card trick.  And not an easy card trick, but "Quick Three Way," which is a fairly long and involved routine.  He saw I was watching him perform it for some other people and he sort of bullied me into learning it.

But he wouldn't teach me the patter.  "Learn the moves first," Bob challenged me, "then come back and I'll teach you the patter."  He scared the crap out of me.  It took me six months to work up the courage to ask him for the patter.  That was 35 years ago--I still do the trick today.  The thousands of people I've performed it for don't know that the endless mystery and joy they get from watching that card trick really comes from Bob.  But I do.

Bob has been a great friend over the years, and not just to me, but to hundreds of others.  Without Bob's friendship and help, perhaps I would've ended up flipping burgers at McDonald's--instead I'm the publisher and editor of "Genii".  I don't know if I should thank him or kick him.  Today, I'll thank him.  Here's a big wet kiss on the cheek for you, buddy.  Have a great day.  Richard Kaufman

Kostya Kimlat

In the past few years that I've gotten to spend time with Bob, I feel lucky to get to see the incredible energy, kindness and generosity that he is known for throughout the magic world. Bob's love for magic is a driving force that has been passed on to so many generations.  No matter who you are, Bob will always give you his time and share the best magic with you, holding nothing back, only wishing to help make you a better Magician.  For this kind of love and passion, we are all lucky and grateful to have Bob.  Thank You for everything!  Kostya Kimlat

Michael Kirschner

Bob was an amazing influence on me.  I went to Tannen's Magic Camp as a stage performer.  I remember sitting at the dining room table during lunch and Bob asked me to pick a card.  The card vanished from the deck.  I looked up and the card was stuck on his head.  From that day on I devoted myself to the art of close-up magic.  Thanks Bob for everything.  Michael Kirschner (Aug. 12, 2007)

Philip Klipper

What can I say about Bob Elliott?  Well, if he likes you....you will have a friend forever.  If you do magic and show him something he likes, you better be prepared to show him because he will not let you leave.  Also he has a wealth of magic knowledge that he's willing to share with everyone.  He will tell you if that move or trick is good or sucks.  You get the truth from Bob, no BS.

As he is known for, HE STEALS FROM THE BEST...  All I can say is I booked Bob out for some events that I wasn't able to attend.  And when I got my report all I they could say was incredible, fabulous, people met him once and loved him.  Congratulations Bob, if anyone deserves a tribute you do.  Be well...Love always, Philip Klipper

Seth Kramer

For Bob Elliott: Thanks for opening the door for me and countless other Magician "wannabe's" and introducing us to a magic way of life; it's a dream come true.  I'll always cherish the times we spent together at your home in Huntington, at Tannen's shop on Broadway, at Magic Camp and at F.F.F.F.  With love and appreciation, Seth Kramer

Ken Krenzel

To my good friend Bob Elliott:  You are indeed a magical prince of sterling fellowship.  Your dedication and contributions to the world of magic are a monument to your generosity and geniality.  You are most missed by your magical buddies back East.  Both Charlene and I send our love to you and Happy on this memorable day.  In magical friendship, Ken Krenzel

Bill Krupskas

I first met Bob around 1978.  I worked near Tannen's when it was on Broadway at 46th.  I would pop up on my lunch hour and there would be Bob hanging out and sharing.  Bob would hold lectures in his living room.  Michael Ammar and Daryl were just two of the many that passed through.  Just a few weeks ago, I received word that Bob was looking for some assistance on a trick.  Without a second thought, I knew that I had what Bob needed so I got an e-mail out to Happy (Bob doesn't do computers) with what Bob needed and Happy replied that Bob was thrilled with my response.  It felt so good to give to Bob after all he has given to me.  All at Ring 244 miss you and hope that you can pop back to the right coast when you get the time.  All the best to Bob and Happy.  Bill Krupskas (Aug. 2, 2007)

Corky Lane & Fred Lane

The Top Ten reasons why Bob Elliott is among the greatest guys in the world:

  1. Bob taught me to "steal from the best".  Obviously we are following Bob's suggestion by using David Letterman's "TOP TEN" format in this little note.  It's worked for him so it ought to be good enough for us.

 2. Bob is an extraordinary generous guy.  As regards to $$$$$ and worldly goods, ???????  But, as to sharing his enormous magical knowledge and skills, he has no peers.

 3. Bob is a very charming and hospitable human being.  From the very first day we met him, when he picked Corky and I up at the airport and brought us to his (Happy's) home, we were impressed with his charm, personality and hospitality (no joke).  I taught (a stretch of the words true meaning) at Tannen's Magic camp under Bob's Directorship.  I'm sure tons of magicians are attesting to the same point.  Of course, everybody knows who taught him about those things, but we will get to Happy later.

 4. Bob has an uncanny ability to recognize and utilize magical talent.  True, Bob has had somewhat of an eye problem (join the club- I've been a member for years), but he never fails to "see" and appreciate exceptional ability.  He would get these wonderful Magicians to visit the camp and entertain and give the campers the benefit of their skills.  No celebrity or big name would ever turn down a request from Bob.

 5. Bob is basically a "good scout".  He is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.  I think I'm missing one.  Anyhow, he does qualify on almost every level.

 6. Bob has made a substantial contribution to the burgeoning appreciation of the art of magic.  This is true across the USA, and this is not a stretch, and throughout the world and probably into space.  Kids from all over the world attended magic camp and I understand that some astronauts are Magicians and must have learned their skills either directly or indirectly from Bob.

 7. Bob has always had really big muscles.  He was always the envy of all the bullying jocks, even those who were one-half or a third his age.  But, he was always a gentle man and was never deliberately intimidating.  However, I must admit that he did intimidate me (unintentionally of course).

 8. Bob is a just, fair and respectful human being.  My whole "real" (aside from magic) life has been about law and justice.  Yet, Bob has demonstrated as good an understanding, by his actions and conduct with others, of what justice and fairness is about, than anybody I know.

 9. Bob is just plain nice.  Perhaps, this says it all.  When Bob's name comes up, the first thing people say about him, is "Bob is a really nice guy".

10. Bob is one lucky dude and really knows how to pick 'em.  How could he have gotten luckier than to meet and somehow persuade HAPPY to be his life partner.  Brilliant, loving, thoughtful----oh yeah, and boy is she beautiful.  And of course, as they say, "the proof of the puddin....." are those two great children John & Jennifer.  We all know where their wonderful genes come from..... O.K. a few of Bob's genes are in the mix too.

THE BOTTOM LINE:  The "TOP TEN" add up to numerous great qualities in two wonderful people.  Corky and I are so proud and fortunate to have had them touch our lives in ways that we will always cherish.  Congratulations Bob!  We know there will be many more and we will look forward to being with you soon.  And please whenever you are in the Chicago area, give us a chance to "pay back".  You'll stay with us and we can show you around our town.  All our love, Corky and Fred Lane

James Lewis

What a pleasure to be a part of this special presentation to Bob Elliot.  I can't think of a more deserving person for a tribute, testimonial, and Award of Distinction.  Special Recognition from the U.S. Congress is nice, of course, but the IBM Ring 76 Installation and Awards Banquet . . . wow!  Now you're talkin'!  I wish I could be there personally to offer my best regards.

Your passion for magic and influence on our art are legendary on the East Coast.  So having you and Happy move from Long Island is definitely the West Coast's gain.  (Besides, the weather out here is much nicer.)  I have been the recipient of the unbridled hospitality of the Elliot family on many occasions, and I appreciate the generosity that both you and Happy have shown me. I look forward to seeing you again at the Magic Castle soon, my friend.  With much affection and best wishes always, James Lewis

Bob Little

I have known Bob as long as I have known dirt.  Yes, he has taught me so much more in life than just magic.  But I will always remember that famous coin move that he teaches everybody where you produce a large coin from a dollar bill.  I love this move and do it all of the time, in this way it keeps Bob alive in my heart.  As you know we do not live long enough.  He is the most honest person, idol and teacher that I have ever known.  Bob Little

Harry Lorayne

Bob Elliott is an "old friend."  That's a cliché, isn't it?  Well, perhaps, but Bob Elliott falls perfectly into that category, and he sure isn't a cliché. We've been friends for about five decades.  Through the years, he's been a fan of mine and I've been a fan of his.

His unselfish contributions to the magic fraternity are well known and appreciated; he is a wonderful Magician and an excellent performer.  Bob was a body builder - you wouldn't want to cross him, so when he taught for me he was also my "protection."  No one could say a bad word to me without also having to deal with Bob.

He was one of my instructors when I ran the Harry Lorayne School of Memory in New York City.  He instructed and demonstrated for the potential students at my first lesson.  His demonstration and personality always helped to get the potential students to "sign up."  Bob was my best instructor.  If all my instructors were as good as he was, I'd most likely still be running my school.  He was also my "house sitter" when my wife and I traveled to Europe for a month or more at a time, Bob "watched" my house.  This was before he met Happy - he was a swinging, eligible, bachelor.  He hosted some exciting parties in my Greenwich Village brownstone.

He is now, of course, a wonderful husband and father.  He was always a wonderful friend.  Now we have an entire country between us so we don't see each other often.  I miss him.  Harry Lorayne

Simon Lovell

Without doubt Bob is one of the nicest people I have ever met both in and out of magic. His dedication to helping others is incredible and, for his amazing help for my career, I can never think of any ways that could repay him for his efforts.  He is truly deserving of any awards that can be given to him and I only wish I could be there to give him a standing ovation as he receives this one.  Bob, quite simply, is a mentor and a best friend to me ... I love both him and Happy dearly .... Big hugs from your rather odd illegitimate child!  Enjoy your evening ... you have absolutely deserved it!  Simon Lovell

Pat Lusthaus & Bob Lusthaus

We would like to join everyone in honoring Bob Elliott.  His love of magic is apparent to all that are in his presence.  He is always willing to perform and teach magic anywhere, at any time, to anyone - young and old, rich and poor, Magician or laymen.  Whether you are new to the art of magic, or a seasoned professional, Bob Elliott has an effect that he will be happy to teach you and that you will enjoy performing.  Bob, you are truly one of a kind and we wish you and Happy good health and much happiness always.  With Love, Pat and Bob Lusthaus

Magic Christian

Concerning my memory I met you a long time ago at Tannen’s for the first time when you taught some youngsters a trick with three cards whereas the middle card changed its place and turned out to have a different back.  It was in 1970; at that time we did not know each other so well like meeting in Paris and later in Vienna when you and Happy arrived on the Magic Carpet trip of Emil Loew.  It was wonderful having you here in Vienna.  We had a lovely dinner with the whole group in the Vienna Woods and drank Honey Schnapps, which was very hot.  You and Bud Dietrich burnt your lips.  I enclosed a picture (see above) which I got from Audrey and Bud Dietrich in 1973. The restaurant's name was "Waldschenke".

So since that time we got to know each other better and better.  Each time I was in New York for a lecture or visit in 1973, 1975 or 1976 and later up, many times for a visit like last April, you treated me, my wife Karin and my kids like VIPs.

Even kidding me at the Kennedy airport pointing me out as a drug dealer.  Fun at that time. You spread the story all over the US I think.  Today you won’t be able to do it I think without going to prison, you and me!

Best regards from this side of the world.  We are really sorry that we cannot be there today in the evening.  Have fun and many more years of health and good memories.  Love from all of us, Magic Christian – Karin – Philipp - and Lisa (July 22, 2007)

Jeff McBride

Bob Elliott was one of the first real professional Magicians I ever met.  Each time I made my pilgrimage from upstate New York to Tannen's in NYC, he would be holding court with the "big boys" trading effects and jokes.  Bob was one of the few that took time to work with the kids that visited the store in hopes of getting some jewels of wisdom that fell from the pro circle that gathered there each weekend!

Bob was the real gem.  He understood the young Magicians and took the time to mentor them.  Bob and I often sat up late at night at the Tannen's Jubilee and other upstate conventions to the wee hours sharing magic and jokes...oh yes the many jokes.

Bob also expanded my vocabulary and my mind!  Those late night sessions are some of my fondest memories and the teaching he shared with me lives on in our Magic and Mystery school, where Eugene and I now hold Bob's place as the magical mentors to the Magicians of the future!  Love to Bob from all of us kids that you taught the real secrets of magic.  To share your passion for the art.  To live the dream.  And to pass on the mysteries to the Magicians of the future!  Your friend, Jeff McBride

Wow, where do I begin to describe "Bob Elliott the Great"?  All I know is that after God created Bob, he broke the mold!  There is no one who is even a close second, except for his lovely wife Happy.  The best to you both always.  Love.  Pauline McVay (July 30, 2007)

I wish you and Happy all the things that you wish for yourselves.  I love you guys both.  You are great people as well as Bob being a great magic teacher.  We all miss you at CUE.  Dan Miller (Aug. 1, 2007)

When I was a teenager at Lou Tannen's in the 70's , Bob was the only person who took me aside to teach me the inside secrets of having a presentation style that would entertain people.  Not just goofy moves but the real techniques of seasoned pros.  I worked my tail off for the next 20 years applying his teachings and they really work.  My legal last name is Safuto and I never wanted to use it because many MCs would mispronounce my last name when bringing me to the stage.  Bob said that I should tell everyone that I only have three toes on each foot... this made them remember my name was  Joe  So - Few - Toe(s) {Safuto}.  It worked.   Usually I would limp away to give it the added laugh.  For Bob I owe my magic life.  I love you for giving me a very blessed career.  Stay well.  Joe Monti

I wish I could be there for Ring 76's WELL DESERVED tribute in your honor.  I'm so happy for you, and let it be known that this honor should be equally bestowed between Bob and his wonderful wife, Happy.  Like Red Skelton's second wife once said, "Being married to a comedian is no laughing matter!"  In Bob's case, Laughter is the first thing that attracted me to him and it didn't take long for us to become friends.  We first met in Buffalo, NY at Eddie Fechter's bar over 20 years ago!  Those were the days.

We all know about Bob's credits as a teacher but it's his character and love for what he's doing that makes him so unique.  You can't avoid getting older and we will all leave this life eventually--but I want it known that Bob Elliott made my life much better.  Bob, today you are surrounded by only a few of the people who love you.  Ring 76 invited all of them but couldn't find a room big enough to hold them all.  Wishing you many happy days!  Tom Mullica

Happy has been a friend of mine who will soon be an officer in my entertainment company, (Alchemy Visions.com) and someone I have known for the past 15 years.  She and Bob have been an incredible support in every way as I trudged through the mire and dedication it took to build multi-layered Entertainment and internet companies.  Happy assisted me in the more technical aspects and was outstanding.  NO task too difficult for this woman!

Bob was an incredibly warm, supportive person and made me laugh till my sides split.  My God, what a talented man.  A real natural.  They introduced me to the world of magic and last night were kind enough to invite me to the BIG event.

The banquet and potpourri of magic acts, including the emcees and the fantastic tribute to Bob, made me laugh again till both my sides split and I cried with joy and pride.  What a night!  Now I want to do a reality show with magic.  Judy Myers

Ted Myerson

I went to Bob to learn about Magic and I ended up learning about life.  He taught me the importance of having a big heart, being generous and enjoying life.  Best Regards, Ted Myerson

Others will tell you what a great supporter of magic Bob Elliott is, about his loyalty to friends, how if something needed to get done you could count on Bob--all adding up to why he is one of the most beloved men in magic on both Coasts.  But when I first met Bob Elliott, he was a scary man.  In addition to being a counselor and advisor as well as an instructor of beginner close-up at the Tannen Magic Camp for teenagers, he was the "enforcer".  At the opening day staff introductions, Bob would warn the kids that he was from Fort Apache in the Bronx, and if anyone stepped out of line, the unlucky offender have to answer to him.

What we all learned, however, was that behind his darkened glasses, Bob was a pussycat, warm and fuzzy, with a heart of gold.  But he probably still doesn't want people to know that.  It's much more fun being the meanie.  What I do know is this: Throughout Bob's years at Tannen's and all over the Tri-State area, Bob taught, guided, and mentored hundreds of young Magicians, all of whom owe Bob a large debt to this day.  I'm proud that I have been able to call him a friend for more than 30 years.  Tom Ogden

David Oliver

Everyone has an "Uncle Bob."  He's usually the crazy one who pulled coins from your ears when you were six years old.  He always brought you the best and coolest birthday gifts, when everyone else bought you socks.  He would tell you the family stories that no one else dared speak about.  He was, in other words, your favorite Uncle.  Unfortunately, I never had an Uncle Bob, until I met Bob Elliott.  From the first moment we met at a Tannen's Jubilee almost twenty years ago, I knew he was different.  He always had a crowd gathered around him watching him perform the classics with cards, coins and of course, the paper balls (done better than anyone).  Whenever a celebrity Magician was nearby, they would always search for Bob.  He was, himself a local celebrity at the Jubilee, yet would constantly take time to work with anyone, young or old, famous or not, on anything they asked about.  He is, in other words, everyone's favorite uncle.

For the past 15 years, I have watched the future of magic carefully guided at Bob's home-away-from-home, Tannen's Summer Magic Camp. When Bob walks into camp, the energy level in the room becomes palpable.   He brings true excitement to everyone at the camp, and inspires those around him, campers and counselors alike.  He is, in other words, the camp's favorite uncle.

Over the past twenty years, I have become quite close with Bob and Happy, spending time together at their home, at conventions, shows and parties, joyous events as well as sad ones. Together, we have lost friends and family members, and we have also watched our extended family blossom and grow.   Bob has become one of my dearest mentors and trusted friends in magic, and for that my life has been blessed.  As I recall, I always got socks on my birthday, and I don't remember anyone ever pulling coins from my ears as a kid. However, I am very, very lucky to have very fond memories of my time spent with Bob Elliott. He is, in other words, My favorite, crazy "Uncle Bob."  Congratulations, Uncle Bob!  With lots of love, your favorite nephew, David Oliver

Bob Elliott has been a positive influence on almost every major Magician to emerge from the New York/New Jersey area since the 1970s.  I'm lucky to be able to count myself in that group.  He gave time, energy, knowledge, and encouragement.  I'm glad to see that he is finally getting some of the recognition he deserves.  Thanks for everything, Bob.  Sincerely, Darwin Ortiz

Johnny Ace Palmer

"Bob Elliott is such a great guy!" was what I heard most during my first Tannen's Jubilee in 1983; when I met him, I understood why.  I felt like we had been friends for a long time.  Bob introduced me at that convention during that round-robin close-up extravaganza, and afterwards, let me know how much he enjoyed my show.  He was kind enough to give me a glowing testimonial in Tannen's Magic Manuscript the first time I had something published.   His theme was, "This guy can do anything he puts his mind to."  Fortunately for me, I believed him.  His quote had a significant influence on my life.  I often thought of Bob when I was competing and undertaking big challenges.

One time when Bob was the director of Tannen's Magic Camp, he showed a group of campers and instructors three great variations of the 21 Card Trick. No one knew how they were done.  Although it was time to go to an activity, the campers asked Bob to explain the tricks.  Bob said, "Johnny knows, and I'll let him show you later...."  After the campers left, when Bob and I were still sitting at the table, he said, "You do how those work, don't you?"

To which I replied, "No, not one."  He then proceeded to explain to me every detail.  That was a Bob thing.  Bob Elliott and I had a great time teaching at the camp together, having fun at Tannen's Jubilee, and enjoying the magic of life!  Have a great party.  Magically yours, Johnny Ace Palmer

Dr. Jeff Pearson

Hanging around Bob as much as I do, I've picked up several of his traits, particularly plagiarism.  So, I'd like to speak about Bob using his own patter:

To be great Magician, one must have poise, charm, a vibrant personality, good looks, Herculean strength, and a sparkling voice...but enough about me.  Bob has been in all the major programs: welfare, unemployment, food stamps, Medicare.  Bob's what you call a miracle worker: that's because it's a miracle when he works.  He has just returned from Las Vegas where he completed a two-month engagement at the International...House of Pancakes.  He's also just recently been booked into the Sahara...the desert, mind you, not the hotel.  Bob has performed tricks before President Reagan...was elected.  He's also performed in front of four Presidents of the United States!  (It was at Mount Rushmore. They were all stoned at the time.)

Bob got his first magic gig after a program committee decided that there's nothing like a good Magician.  Per Bob, "They were told to hire me because I was nothing like a good Magician."  To perform, Bob had to rely on his wit, cleverness, and humor...which often left him in one heck of a lot of trouble.  He started one night's performance by noting "I suppose that many of you came here tonight looking for entertainment?...and you'll probably go home the same way."   Later, after dropping some cards, Bob quipped, "There's magic in my arms...it just hasn't reached my fingers yet.  He also noted that he had magic in his veins although sometimes he wished it were blood.

Bob's magic often left folks guessing...why does he do it?  He is particularly proud of a recent gig at a mental institution..."they went crazy over it!"  And if you're wondering why Bob smiles so much, it's probably because he has a rabbit hidden in his shorts.  Magic is dangerous sometimes, he once commented.  "I once got a black eye doing magic at a party.  I was showing a girl a card trick and I made my pass too quickly."  Finally, if you go to the movies, be sure to look for Bob...he goes there often.

Thanks for your mentoring and friendship, Bob (and Happy)!  Dr. Jeff Pearson

Tom Potente

I first met Bob Elliott when I was about 12 years old at a family affair I was lucky enough to attend.  I heard a crowd of people laughing while a tall sharp good looking character decked out in dark green sunglasses was making fun of an unsuspecting spectator’s wedding ring.  Soon enough the ring vanished and reappeared hooked onto the key chain hanging from his back pocket.  Ring flight!  A routine not commonly performed by others.  Either, because they know that few can compare with the presentation Bob has bestowed upon the effect or afraid that Bob might wallop them with one of the cannons he hides under his shirtsleeves for infringing on his favorite effect.  Well anyway, I followed him around like a shadow for the rest of the night until I managed to get him alone.  It was then that he gave me from his pocket a pair of “color changing knives”.  The knives were his to perform with that evening.  But instead, he gave them to me.

That was the biggest mistake of his life, because from that moment on he couldn’t seem to get rid of me.  I continued to follow him around for the next several decades.  Bob became a mentor to me that I learned to admire with the utmost of respect.  Yes, he taught me plenty of magic through the years, but more importantly he taught me lessons of life.  I watched as Bob tried his best to make the people around him feel like a million bucks.  He gave unselfishly to everyone around him.  If he had it to give he gave it.  If he didn’t have it to give, he found it and then gave it.  Whether it be his time, a magic effect, a place to stay, an ear to lend, a ride from the airport or the shirt off his back, Bob was there to give it.

From the day Bob moved into his Estate in Cold Spring Harbor Long Island, he made sure there was always a cozy room available for out-of-towners to call home.  Meanwhile, his wife Happy made sure there was always a good meal waiting as well.  Soon it became known world-wide as a haven for magicians.  On any given day a magician from some part of the globe was sure to be found cutting a deck of cards at Bob’s kitchen counter.  Heaven only knows just how much of today’s magic was inspired right there in that kitchen.

The contributions that Bob Elliott has made toward the world of magic are endless and anyone who knows him will surely agree that there is not enough space on this page to even begin the list.  But the attribute that Bob adorns even above his talent as a world class magician is the attribute of generosity.

Whoever is fortunate enough to share company with Bob is certain to get a taste of his generosity and a taste of his huge heart (not to mention a taste of Happy’s wonderful cooking).  But because of his passion for magic his company is most often shared with the great magicians of the world.  Therefore, it is the magic community that has benefited most from the knowledge, generosity and wonderful heart of Bob Elliott.  ELLIOTT THE GREAT!  A man that I feel blessed to know and proud to call one of my closest and dearest friends.  I love you Bob.  Tom Potente (Sep. 26, 2007)

The encouragement and support I received from Bob Elliott played a huge part in my decision to continue my education in magic, and I know that holds true for many, many others.  He has never been anything other than a shining light--it's what he's made of.  David Regal

Roger L. Reid

Here is the story I remember most about Bob Elliott:  Some time in the early 80's Bob petitioned to become a member of Frank Garcia Ring #244 on Long Island, of which I was founder and first president.  Naturally Bob's reputation preceded him.  The membership screening committee was going to waive the performing requirement and simply put him up for a vote by the membership.  But Bob insisted on fulfilling the same requirements that everyone else had done to become a member.  He insisted on performing.  And what a performance!  Bob did only one effect.  He came in front of the group with a box of sealed decks of cards, and asked for a volunteer.  The volunteer was instructed to take the box and go out of the meeting room into the lobby.  He was then, out of sight of everyone, to open the box, select a deck and break the seal on the deck.  He was then to select a card, reverse it, replace it into the deck and the deck was to be replaced in the larger box.

The volunteer returned to the back of the room.  Without ever touching the cards, seeing the decks or speaking to the volunteer Bob successfully named the selected card and blew away the entire membership!!!   How did he do it you ask?  Well Bob had his wife, Happy, waiting out in the lobby!  She slipped the "volunteer" (now a paid confederate) a five dollar bill and told him what card to select and not tell anyone what had transpired.  It was a number of months before most of us realized what had happened.  Thanks for a great magical memory Bob!  Magically, Cigam the Magician, Roger L. Reid

Bob Elliot is not only a fine Magician and a good friend but is one of the great "givers" in magic.  He has functioned as mentor to many young Magicians through his involvement in magic camps and other activities and since he gave up lifting weights, has devoted his time to lifting magic to a level where we would all like it to be.  I wish that there were more in magic like him.  Charles Reynolds

I first met Bob in 1987 on a plane from New York to my first 4-F convention about ten years ago.  Well time flies!  It was longer than that.  Ever since then, he's been my biggest confidence booster.  Every time, either good or bad show, he would always congratulate me and share his love for magic in his own way.  Even before I met the stars at 4-F he gave me a run down on how nice everyone was.  He told me to watch for Jerry Andrus, wait till you see his hands they are huge and he uses bridge size cards, he will fool you bad.  Bob is Mr. Magic, he is to magic what Joe DiMaggio was to baseball.  Ask him to show you a picture he carries in his wallet, with his shirt off.  Mr. Hercules!  Thanks Bob!  Your biggest fan, Rocco

Romaine

Dear friends in magic, I'm sorry that I can't be with you in person on this day to pay tribute to my old friend Bob Elliott.  Bob and I go back more years than I can remember.  Since he hired me to perform at one of the Parent Assembly Shows in New York City some time back in the late 1950's, we have been running into each other progressively throughout the years and most recently when I had the honor of performing at the opening of the Bob Elliott Theatre in State College, Pennsylvania.  I've always been amazed at Bob's knowledge of magic and his excellent skill in performing it.  But most of all I have enjoyed knowing him as a person, his odd-ball sense of humor, and his company with his charming wife Happy.  Congratulations "old friend" and have a great life.  I remain, as always, your friend, Romaine

I met Bob when I was about 9 in the East coast magic shop.  Boy, he was nice and funny too.  If he didn't tell me his age I would say he had the energy and charisma of a young kid.  It was Bob who sparked my interest in magic.  He gave me several personal lessons.  I have been performing magic professionally now and Bob gets all my thanks because if it wasn't for him making my signed card appear on his forehead, I doubt I would have stuck to my magic.  Best wishes to you and Happy!  Jordan Rosenberg (July 11, 2008)

David Roth

When I was contacted and asked to write something about Bob Elliott, I did not hesitate because Bob is one of my favorite people in and out of magic.  I've known Bob for about 40 years, and I have vivid recollections of how supportive, helpful, and kind he was to all the young Magicians in New York City.  Bob arranged my first lecture tour, and we've done corporate show together over the years.  I have always enjoyed his friendship, and it's a thrill to write something about my dear friend Bob Elliott.  David Roth

Sheila Rubin & Barry Rubin

I live in Florida now but spent many years on Long Island where Bob Elliott was known as "The Magician's Magician."  Besides his unique talent and personality, he has the most warmth of any human being I know.

From having lecturers perform and sleep at his home, going to bed and saying, "The last one out close the door," to showing up at my wife's mother's funeral (How did he find out?), entertaining a very solemn bereavement group and bringing smiles and laughter to people who hadn't been happy for a long time, among other selfless actions, Bob has demonstrated a giving nature accompanied by a refreshing sense of humor. Not to mention how this living legend is always giving and sharing of his talent with other Magicians.  When my wife, Sheila, and I visited my son in Temecula, CA, Bob came to his home and entertained the family and neighbors.  Bob and his wonderful wife Happy have brought many hours of happiness to our lives.  We wish you, Bob, a long life of magic.  Sheila & Barry Rubin

Jay Sankey

Bob Elliott is one of the most knowledgeable and generous Magicians I have ever met. Wherever I go, Magicians know his name and speak of Bob with enormous respect and appreciation.   He has taught, inspired and above all, watered so many.  I admire him a great, great deal.  Jay Sankey

George Schindler

Dear Bob: I am delighted that you are being honored for your great contributions to our art of Magic.  We have known each other for many years and I always remember two of your classic performances of the Malini Egg Bag and mostly the Spellbound Con Effect.  We had great fun at our magic school years ago when we introduced you to our beginning students as one of our Advanced Class Magicians watched their faces as you blew them away.  You were always a great teacher whether it be for Harry's Memory course or our School of Magicians.  You are a valued member of our Society and of the fraternity of magic at large.  Wishing you the best.  My love to Happy.  Magically yours in M-U-M, George Schindler

Carol Shelley

I start this off by saying that Bob is one of the best, most sincere, loyal and stand-up friends that anyone could ever want, and I am proud that he is in my life.  That statement goes far beyond the magic community because I have known Bob for many years not only on a professional level but on a personal level.  We met way back in the Frank Garcia School for Magic in 1974.  I remember a local TV show in Huntington, NY had asked Bob to come on and perform his "magic" and promote Frank's school.  He brought me on the show, because he believed in me.  I did not let him down.  Ask Bob.  He still talks about my "Professor's Nightmare" to this Day.  (Don't judge me too cruelly you people of the trade.  I had only been involved with magic for 4 weeks).  There is a lot of time, memories associated with Bob Before I met Bob, he was best friends with my late husband Derek.  Derek would always say, even up to the time of his death in 2004, that Bob was the closest person to him because he was always there for him, never asked questions and was totally non-judgmental outside of their magic association.  He loved him like a brother.

Hey Bob, remember when Derek had fallen asleep on the bus from NYC to Cliffside Park. He got off and called a car service called "Trane", now 2 am.   When the police saw him sitting on a stoop in the middle of nowhereville, they asked what he was doing there, looking so pomp ass.   Derek replied in his ever flippant way, ''I'm just waiting on a Train".  When they locked him up, you came and bailed him out.  You can't buy or sell those moments.

As for his work in the magic community, Bob is, not only an enthralling performer but  has also been the most avid supporter of promoting the classic performers as well as new talent. (nationally and internationally).  He embraces his own talent and/or can see someone else's with a passion, a direction and a future.  He acts like he owns it not like he rents it.  He is none threatened.  When performing, his magic is not only is impeccable but, the most endearing feature, is that he is entertaining with the "Elliott Flare" that can only come from a deep love and conviction for the art.  He has nothing to lose and everything to gain.  When he performs, Bob is having the "Best Time of His Life".  Here and in "The Magic" I think everyone in the "Magic Biz" can take a lesson from Bob.  Magicians are big fish in a small pond, fighting and competing amongst each other, whether amateur or industry motivated.   Bob doesn't give a rat's ass. He believes in himself.  That is what makes his magic and him special. He is one of a kind. He has no peers. He has no use for them.  FYI:   Please don't ever stop performing the Fabulous Jumping Card Trick: That will be the day Magic dies.  I love you.  You are forever in my soul.  XOXO Carol Shelley

Jerry Somerdin & Clarice Somerdin

I first met Bob many years ago when he commuted every Saturday from Long Island to New York City (35 miles via the Long Island Railroad) to volunteer as a demonstrator at Tannen's Magic.  I noticed that the kids would always crowd around him.  It seemed that he focused mainly on the kids.  On one particular Saturday I sat next to him on the train, as we both returned to Long Island from Tannen's.  I asked him why his demonstrations always were focused on the kids.  He explained that he had not yet had children of his own and he loved kids.  He enjoyed seeing their amazed, happy, smiling faces as he demonstrated and gave advice on performing the tricks.

From that time on we became great friends.  We belonged to IBM Ring 244 and the CUE Club (Close Up Entertainers) in Long Island, NY.  Visiting Magicians, who were doing lectures in the area, were always welcome to stay at the home of Bob and Happy Elliott -- who treated their guests royally.   Whenever advice or help was needed by anyone in magic (regardless of their level of expertise) Bob always was there.  He did not do all this for personal gain -- he did it for his love of people and magic.

One of the anecdotes that comes to mind took place more than 30 years ago.  A Magician (whose name eludes me) was doing a lecture tour and was unable to complete part of it.  He asked Bob to fill in for him.   Bob would never accept remuneration for lectures he gave and he never presented items for sale, but he felt that this time the clubs expected items to be sold.  Bob asked me if he could sell some of the items which I was marketing.  I agreed.  He sold all the items at retail prices and reimbursed me in full.  I insisted that he keep the profits, but he absolutely refused.  In addition, he thanked me for allowing him to sell the items.  This is indicative of the kind of person Bob is.  He has always devoted himself to helping others and sharing his love of magic.  Sorry Clarice and I are unable to join you on this special occasion.  We love you.  Jerry and Clarice Somerdin

Jeff Spiller

I have known Bob for at least 35+ years.  His love of magic, generosity and contribution to the art is immeasurable.  I miss him from the New York / Long Island magic scene.  But, I always wish Bob and Happy the best where ever they are!   I wish I was there to see the smile on his face and this honor is well deserved!  Magically yours, Jeff Spiller

Tony Spina

For the past 40 years as President of Louis Tannen Inc., there was never a moment over that period of time that Bob Elliott ever let me down.  He was our close-up show chairman for Tannen's Magic jubilee, which year after year grew to be the most attended, talked about event in the magic world.  Then in his roll of Tannen's Summer Magic Camp Director, he again displayed his ability of keeping things “together".

As 200 boys and girls gathered each summer to learn magic, Bob always took the beginners class.  By the end of the week they became wonderful exponents in the art of magic, due to Bob's teaching.  But more wonderful than that, his energy, friendship and warmth on Saturday afternoon left little to be desired.   Youngsters gathered around him like "Peter Pan".  Our friendship and love over these wonderful years left a feeling that's hard to describe, and I'm happy and proud to call him "friend".  Sincerely, Tony Spina

Thanks for everything Bob!  You are in my heart; I just love you.  Your kindness is just amazing.  Be Happy!  David Stone

Sol Stone

Bob and I have been friends for a long time.  As a young man, he was a bright, funny, handsome, happy and successful sales engineer.  Later, he became an excellent Magician, teacher, mentor, lecturer, booker and host to many visiting Magicians.  When complimented on one of his effects, methods or presentations, he usually replied, "I only steal from the best."  In my opinion, his greatest achievement was finding a super woman like Happy and persuading her to marry him.  Sol Stone

Jim Swain

Imagine a place where you could meet the world's greatest Magicians, talk, trade tricks until all hours of the night and eat wonderful food, all the while in the company of two incredible hosts?  I'm talking about Magicians such as Derek Dingle, Daryl, Michael Ammar, Darwin Ortiz, Paul Harris, Magic Christian, John Carney, John Cornelius, David Roth, and dozens more?  No, I'm not talking about the Magic Castle.

I'm talking about the home of Bob and Happy Elliott in Cold Spring Harbor, New York.  For several decades, Bob and Happy opened up their beautiful home to Magicians from all corners of the earth. At the same time, they also invited local Magicians to come visit.   I was one of those fortunate enough to have an open invitation to the Elliott home.  They were some of the greatest times of my life.  Jim Swain

John Thompson & Pam Thompson

Bob Elliot is not only one of the finest Magicians and magical mentors, but he's also a very dear friend and magical confidant of mine.  I've known Bob from my earliest days in New York when I first met him at Tannen's.  He held a very important post in Big Apple magic and was one of the true notables of East Coast magic.  I am most sorry that, do to commitments, I will not be able to attend this memorable occasion that marks Bob's contribution to magic, but both Pam and I will be there in spirit.  Congratulations, Bob, you deserve every honor that will bestowed on you on this most fastidious evening.  From The Great Tomsoni and Company, John & Pam Thompson

Bobby Torkova

I have known Bob and Happy for many years and have fond memories of spending time with them.  I recall how supportive they both were when I was competing in my first SAM competition in Boston in 1995 and how much that meant to me.

I would see Bob at many meetings and conventions but one time in particular stands out in my mind.  I had been invited to a private little jam session of magic at a fellow's home on Long Island.  All of us were sharing some of our best routines which made for a very entertaining evening.  But it wasn't until Bob started performing that the evening reached its height.  Bob had done a number of wonderful routines but he finished with his version of the "Ten Card Poker Deal."  And even to a group of well-posted Magicians, most of whom were familiar with the trick, Bob brought the house down and had us literally screaming by the time he finished.

That one trick, along with Bob's handling and personality, stands out in my mind today as one of the best close-up demonstrations I've ever seen.  I am still trying to perfect the routine as was done by Bob that night.  It is my pleasure to be a part of this tribute to my friend Bob Elliott and wish him and Happy all best wishes for the future.  Bobby Torkova

David James Weinberger

When I was eight years old, I walked into the Hicksville Magic Shop of Long Island, NY.  While in there, a man with white hair and glasses came over to me and told me, "You have good hands for magic, kid".  He then asked "Where are your parents?"  After speaking with my parents and amazing them, I was told that this unique man wanted to teach me, at no charge.

From that day on my life was changed.  Every Saturday I would head off to the Magic Shop, or the nearby McDonald's to start my lessons with this special man, the great Bob Elliott.  He taught me for years and years, and keep adding to that, he brought me into the circle, introduced me to countless people, including the greats.  Bob had made me into a real Magician.  One time when I was thanking Bob for spending so many years teaching me and investing his time, he told me that he saw in me what he saw once in David, Copperfield that is.

His time, his words, his advice, and especially his personality will forever be appreciated deeply by me.  Bob told me once, his reward would be if I succeeded.  When someone as great as Bob says that to you, you better succeed and I will for you Mr. Elliott!  To have been taught by you was more then an honor; it was a gift to the soul.  Your friend and student for life.  David James Weinberger (July 28, 2008)

David my Brother sent me this wonderful link and I had to write a comment or two.  It has been a while since I have seen you or watched one of your tricks, but your class and charm still hold strong in my memory.  You are a true class act and loved by many.  May many more have the pleasure of knowing you and your magical ways for years to come.  All the best to you and Happy, with love.  Dorothy Weinberger (July 29, 2007)

Look in the dictionary under magic and you'll find Bob Elliott's picture; "Elliott the Great" as he is called, is truly one of a kind.  He will be missed on the East Coast, but our loss is your gain on the West Coast.  Bob stops everyone in their tracks with his magic whether it's in diners, restaurants, on the street and even in airports.  One time I brought him to JFK Airport to catch a plane to go to the FFFF Convention.  As he was loading his bags, he started performing magic for the airport workers.  Before you know it, the whole group of airport workers as well as people in line were around him.  His willingness to teach and support magic is impeccable.  He's the best.  Bill White

It was a very special day for San Diego County, when Bob Elliott decided to settle-down in this community.  Special, because our newest resident is a world class entertainer, but more than that he is a true gentleman and is most giving of his talents.  Since Bob's arrival in the greater San Diego area the quality of magic has risen, and that partly because Bob himself has taken the time to work with many performers and helped them hone their skills.  Today, in San Diego County a magic meeting is not a real magic meeting unless Bob Elliott is there.  Thank you Bob, you have made a great impact on the magic communities everywhere, especially here.  Jack White

Bob Elliott is a wonderful person who has brought, brings and will continue to bring a lot to the magic community.  He is a passionate performer always ready to help his fellow Magicians.  He is simply Super Bob!  I am very proud to be one of his friends.  Boris Wild

Dear Bob: Sorry I do not have your address at hand as I write this note.  Don't worry.  I'm a Magician also.  This will get to you.  It has relieved my mind a great deal to learn that you are a fraternal twin.  I have spent many sleepless nights wondering how you could have done so many things in your life before I knew you were a split (no), duel (oops), dual personality.  How else?

Seriously, it gives me great pleasure to express my appreciation of all the charity shows you have given, all the youngsters (and oldsters) you have taught magic, and all the people you have influenced through your many, many acts of kindness.  While I certainly am not, I am sure you will be surprised (stunned!) at all the friends in Magic who are with you at this moment.  Let me just say, I appreciate our long friendship.  All the best in life and magic, Phil Willmarth
